more context needed. the euros weren't taken seriously until the 1990s. the so-called finals of the euros consisted, in the early days, of the four semi-finalists. we failed to qualify for the wc finals in 74, 78, and 94. in 82 most of the knock-out was replaced with two additional groups feeding into semis. in 2014 we didn't get out of the group. try looking at the knock-out games in terms of wins, draws, and losses. as for the premier league aspect, the number of teams playing in the finals of both competitions has been expanding all the time. since 1986, there have been four knockout rounds in the wc finals. in 1982, 6 groups of 4 fed into 4 groups of 3, and the winners of each group went into the semis, so only two knockout rounds. we were undefeated that tournament. that means with not qualifying in 74 and 78, then finishing 2nd in the second group stage, we didn't get a shot at a knockout range from 1970 until 1986, when we came up against hand of fat druggy.
true. i don't really understand why the scotland team has deteriorated as much as it has. i know they're a small nation, but for decades some of the best managers and players in english football were scots.
found a wiki page with their world cup history summarised. they've made the finals 8 times, but not got past the group stages. they've won 4 games, drawn 7, and lost 12 (including 3 against brazil). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotland_at_the_FIFA_World_Cup
I also found that page, and a similar one for the Euro's. Makes great reading https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotland_at_the_UEFA_European_Championship
The best one was Euro 1996, when us beating the Dutch 4-0 was putting them through, at which point Kluivert scored and the Jocks went out on GD
Sky are ****s for printing & reporting this as are any other propaganda outlets that have followed in their steps. Photographer is a dick too. http://www.skysports.com/share/11412104
Considering Scotland has the second oldest FA in the world and has a similar population size to the likes of Denmark – it really does embarrassingly ****e. Quite easily the worst side in these islands and I note they're in a UEFA Nations League group with Albania and Israel - which sums up their current status.
Am I missing something here. The photo I'm looking at just lists the whole squad, grouped into positions. please log in to view this image Where the names are in those groups could be just down to chance rather than design.
I would say it shows the possible team for Panama on top and the second choices underneath. It doesn't mean it's certain, but I'll be surprised if that wasn't the team that plays on Sunday.
these things are often cyclical, but it's been a long time for scotland, as if someone has stolen their bicycle.
