this is mildly interesting, from last night. an article in which a bbc reporter gave the england players marks out of 10. gave maguire a 5, didn't mention his assist for the second goal. along with his marks, each player had a rating based on marks given by readers of the article. in only two cases did the mark from the readers exceed the reporter's mark. dele alli was rated 5.06 by the readers compared to 5 by the reporter. maguire was rated 5.66 by the readers but only 5 by the reporter. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44528359
I heard someone saying this was the case for most evening games. In order to things in on time they were often asked to put the ratings in at half time!?!?
I was well chuffed with that win. I had predicted 1:1 before the game and was depressingly vindicated until Kane popped up with the late winner. 3 points in the bag from the 1st game. Nice change for England. Confidence building for the next game and helps them settle into the tournament without the usual building pressure following bad results. Personally I was just pleased to still be able to see the TV by the end. My mate closed his offices at lunch time yesterday. Gave anyone who didn't like football the afternoon off and for those that do filled the fridge with beers, the table with snacks and put the Sweden game on the big TV. We were on shots by half time which wasn't a good sign. Things were getting messy by the Belgium game but we ordered in Burgers and abused the coffee machine. By the time England kicked off we were down to 4 hardy soles and two of them were asleep most of the 2nd half. I scared the **** out of them when Kane scored the winner
I predicted 1-1 as well and assumed after 20 we’d batter them...and after 60 that it would stay 1-1! Has your mate got any more jobs?!
If he has Den I'm first in the queue...unless your a lawyer then you might be ahead of me as I'll need about another 4 years of Uni to retrain
For Walker to say he'll learn after giving away a penalty is frightening. Him and Young are red cards waiting to happen...Then we'll be able to give them stick for the next four years...
25 when we beat Ecuador......but you're point stands, 6 knock out victories since 1966.....at major tournaments, and one of those was penalties vs Spain. Harrowing
I was at that Ecuador game. ****ing sweltering I've never sweated so much ever. Really piss poor record
Six knockout victories since 1966... So that's: 1986 vs Paraguay 1990 vs Belgium 1990 vs Cameroon 1996 vs Spain 2002 vs Denmark 2006 vs Ecuador
Bloody hell. That is really piss poor and depressing. The Spain game was on penalties. Belgium was a last minute of extra time jobbie. Cameroon we nearly ****ed up. Equador was an uninspiring 1-0. Denmark was comfortable (three nil, even Heskey scored). And Paraguay was a stroll in the park. Not much to write home about in 52 years however.
I didn't realise we did so badly in the 70s and early 80s until watching that BBC documentary ''Managing England: The Impossible Job".
