A business owner from Boro came into my shop yesterday and he told me that Grant has told a couple of close friends that he's definitely going to be coming back and playing at Sunderland, next season. He showed me a couple of pics of Grant being out with the lads and it all seemed legit, to me.

Grant plus a.n.other with McGeady and McMannaman out wide, not too shabby for League 1.

Think we'll lose McGeady. He'll be on a good wedge. Will be happy to see Grant come home though

Brighton and Hove Albion have completed the signing of Sunderland goalkeeper Jason Steele on a three-year contract, no fee will be paid to Sunderland with the club keen to get his wages off the books. The Seagulls have signed the former England under-21 international to be back up to regular starter Mat Ryan.

Steele only signed a four-year deal with Sunderland last year when he joined from Blackburn Rovers for £500,000, but his solitary season in between the sticks at the Stadium of Light was an unmitigated disaster.

The 27-year-old looked a poor signing from the off and although he started the season as first choice, he only lasted four games before losing his place to Robbin Ruiter, which in turn started the chopping and changing the goalkeeping position as both Simon Grayson and Chris Coleman desperately tried to get good performances out of Steele, Ruiter and then the on-loan Cardiff ‘keeper Lee Camp.

Steele almost left the club in the January transfer window but his move to Derby County fell through at the last minute. His departure and Camp’s return to parent club Cardiff means Sunderland’s only remaining senior goalkeeper is Ruiter, who is still recovering from a finger injury.

    I still can't believe it.

If this has anything to do with Chris Hughton, then he has gone down in my estimation, though I'm sure that wont bother him.
Maybe having to play Steele in goal though. That SHOULD bother him.

EXCLUSIVE: Sunderland hoping to land Manchester United left-back after agreeing loan deal
Sunderland are hoping to complete the signing of Manchester United left-back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson on a season-long loan deal.

Stewart Donald appeared on the Roker Rapport podcast earlier today to talk all things Sunderland, including transfer rumours.

During our chat he mentioned that he had been hoping to sign six players in the near future:

Two strikers came up on Monday, a midfielder is in from Scotland which I am hopeful will sign. We have a full-back I think will sign and a goalkeeper I think will sign.

The sixth player was Alim Öztürk, as we exclusively revealed earlier today, and we can now reveal that the full-back that Donald believes will complete a move to Sunderland is Manchester United’s England youth international Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

Borthwick-Jackson has had recent spells on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds United in the Championship and neither quite worked out, but Sunderland hope he will fare much better in League One.

The 21-year-old left-back has Premier League and Champions League experienced with United, including playing the full game in their 2-1 defeat at the Stadium of Light - which Sunderland won thanks to a Wahbi Khazri free-kick and a David De Gea own goal.

Sunderland are confident that the player will sign a loan deal to keep him at the Stadium of Light for the entirety of the 2018-19 season and he is likely to replace Bryan Oviedo, who should depart from the club after his World Cup adventure comes to an end.

Sunderland look set to beat Bristol City and Rangers to the signing of midfielder Dylan McGeouch.

The Scottish midfielder is out of contract at Hibernian and has been targeted by a number of clubs, including the Robins , after a fine season north of the border.
Yet comments by new Sunderland owner Stewart Donald suggest the 25-year-old is on his way to the Stadium of Light instead.

Chronicle Live report that Donald was giving an interview to fan podcast Roker Report and, in it, he revealed a midfielder from Scotland was close to signing - that was alongside two strikers, a full-back and a goalkeeper.

Peru's Luis Advincula (L) strikes the ball past Scotland's Dylan McGeouch
Whether the midfielder is definitely McGeouch remains to be seen but he has been strongly linked with a move to the Black Cats.

If the deal was to go through, it would be the second transfer target that the Robins have missed out on this summer after goalkeeper Dean Henderson went to Sheffield United on loan from Manchester United.

After a flurry of speculation on McGeouch's future, things have quietened down recently, with clubs waiting to find out where the Scot decides to go.

He was warned by former manager Alan Stubbs that clubs will not wait around for him to decide his future.

Stubbs said: "Dylan is a very good player and he has just had his best season in the last four years.

"It’s no coincidence that came at a point where he found himself fully fit. Prior to that, he was very stop-start and I think he realises that. Some of the reason why he was stop-start was that he didn’t necessarily do a strength and conditioning programme that would have helped him.

"He found himself breaking down and it was like, because he had not done that in the years gone by, it caught up with him. He has got to the root of the problem, been to London, seen a few people and thankfully he has got over it.

"I think the options are a nice dilemma for Dylan to have. He obviously has a contract on the table from Hibs which I’m sure is attractive, he has been linked with Rangers and Sunderland and a few others.

"It’s a nice position for him to be in, but these clubs will want an answer sooner or later. They won’t want it dragging on all summer, they need to make plans moving forward. Whatever he does, I wish him the best. If it’s staying at Hibs, fantastic. If not, then good luck."

I've just seen that on Sky News Saf.

We are expecting to sign Grant from Boro very soon.

Looks like its definitely happening so that's good info from your contact.

This is one of those rare occasions when I'd be happy to re-sign an ex-player. I think he can do a good job for us in L1.

And a local lad coming home as well.

The Daily Express claim that the 30-year-old has rejected the chance of potential Champions League football in favour of a return to England.

The Jambos signed the keeper last summer after he was released by Burton Albion.

However, after a hugely impressive campaign in Gorgie, the stopper has been credited with a number of suitors with his Tynecastle deal up.

Millwall are also interested in McLaughlin.

It's an immense and even a little bit of a statement signing for league one. He's a good championship standard player, still.

Stating the obvious anyway, of course they're going to be cheap. We'll wait until we're back in the championship before we bid for Griezman.
