It may be technically right but without VAR no one would have even questioned it. It's such a nothing decision. There wasn't an advantage gained at all. I just think the offside rule in general has got way out of hand. It's obviously supposed to stop goal-scrounging but it's used as an excuse to disallow all sorts nowadays and there's not really any logical reason for it in incidents like that.

No advantage except if the offside player wasn't offside and didn't bounce the ball back into the box it would have gone out for a goal kick...

There's a good chance the offside would have been given anyway, from linesmans standards he was actually quite far offside, and as has been said many times already any close offside decisions the Lino's are to keep their flags down and let VAR check it out.

Great defending there, surprised Costa managed to restrain himself. Perfect opportunity for a few sly kicks and a stamp.

He was no more than a few inches offside and only for the briefest moment, just as a teammate happened to technically graze the ball with his head.

I've always thought one reason I don't enjoy watching rugby as a layman is how it seems like the ref is blowing constantly and I'm not sure what for. Loads of little technical offences. Football is going that way.

A rule's a rule end of. If you're doing 85 down the M1 you'll get away with it most of the time but if you get stopped you've got no grounds for complaint.

He was stood completely offside, every single part of him was behind enemy lines, that's a little more than a few inches.

I've just seen the Lino actually flagged for the offside anyway, and the VAR just made sure he was right.

Just needs Iran to turn over Portugal and that's Ronaldo on his bike, assuming Spain don't lose to Morocco.

So if a ball goes out by just a few inches for the briefest of moments and is crossed for an opposing player to score against City you would be happy with it?

I hate VAR, it hasn't added anything to this world Cup. It has been wildly inconsistent both Egypt and England have both had two clear penalties not given. Its just so inconsistent, the world Cup has slowly allowed me to get my love for football back (**** you Allams) but VAR is quickly spoiling it.

I actually don't think VAR has been anywhere near as bad as I was expecting (like what we saw in the cup). Actually I think that it's been for the most part pretty good. Needs some work but I can see it becoming a good thing.

It could be very big in a premier league season and I think some of the big boys might get it up them. If VAR existed in 16/17, I think we probably would have stayed up.

I agree with this, it's been far better than we've seen in England ahead of this tournament and despite a couple of errors, it's led to a great many wrongs being righted.

    Agreed.

I don’t understand those saying some decisions woulda gone the way of the underdogs and they like the uncertainty in football.

It mostly rights wrongs as Lambo says and would definitely bother the bigger clubs more who get the benefit of **** decisions usually.
