Some people may agree with me here, but are there not unofficial rules amongst fans as to where the most popular places to sit are for singing etc...

For example, its well known knowledge that the strawberry corner is and always has been a singing area, but now it isn't because too many people in there just sit there and discuss tactics. That's fine, but I just wish they would go elsewhere. I can't make them, but I do think, and this may sound harsh, that if people keep standing and singing, they will eventually move.

Its a sacrifice we need to make if we are to have any sort of atmosphere at home games again.

God, I hate the ones who moan about EVERYTHING! My favourite complaint was Doncaster at home when some guy behind me shouted "Carroll, you shouldn't be offside, you're a geordie!!"

Except your more likely to be kicked out by the stewards for persistent standing. Unfortunately, I see it as an impossible battle to win at the moment .

Very true mate. Have you seen the size of some of the stewards? I wouldn't fancy my chances.

Kicked or kicked out? Getting kicked seems a bit harsh and could result in a court case and the Fat Man having considerable damages to pay.

Fight nearly happened in front of me on Sunday. Some bloke kept moaning and the guy behind told him to shut up. Moaner took offense, little spat started then the normal guy muttered 'I'll have you outside' so it kicked off a bit. Pretty sad as the moaner was there with his son who's about 13

I think assuming he's not a football fan is a bit harsh, especially if he's on his own. Turning up, watching every second and not speaking sounds pretty hardcore to me. I've seen both sides of it, before the away section switch a few years back I sat 5 rows from the back in Leazes L7 and stood all game, apart from the odd one where an old fella bought a ticket behind me so I'd sit. He'd paid his money for a seat so I'm not going to stand in front of him, and I'd like to think some little bugger would do the same for me when me knees start going. I also still stand and sing at away games.

I was offered a move to the 'singing section'/cheap seats that year but opted against it in favour of actually seeing a match rather than the Kick Off 2 view from the gods, so now sit in the East Stand (tier 2 row a so my 6'2 frame fits comfortably with my feet on the concrete wall). It's not often songs drift as far as us, so I spend more time talking about the match. No issue as far as I'm concerned, even East Standers shout and react, and just because there's not so much singing doesn't make them any less fans than the singers.

It's annoying that seat allocations don't allow for better placement to give you a choice which would sort the whole thing quickly, a big block of singers behind each goal would be fantastic. Just hope safe standing goes through in the next few years. Ex Leazes enders, just enjoy being able to see the game properly for once, and be glad you're nowhere near Tash and his camera.

Hate the moaners. 20 minutes into Ba's debut, against Arsenal of all teams, and to this bloke near me he was a "6 foot pile of ****". Thought I was sat with tash for a while.

I've got to know him quite well, he does speak he just hasn't got any passion. He started going because of his work colleagues but had never played sport before (rather largely built) and doesn't understand the game.

As I've said on previous threads the support at St James has been terrible for years. It was ok when we first went to all seating, although I was very sad during my last game in the Milburn Paddock, but since the banners got banned and prices went up and up the atmosphere has got worse.

You've always had to respect the people sitting around to you, it's part and parcel of big stadium life. Level 7 were lucky in a way that they had an area where they could stand with likeminded people, but this is the exception and not the rule in all UK grounds. Unfortunately the option is no longer there so like thousands of other fellow persistent-singers have been doing for the past 15 odd years it's common courtesy to be mindful of when and how long you stand for.

As for the 'Ashley took level 7 away because of the singing' I don't buy that for a second. Mainly because i doubt he cares.

No. Unless Tash is lying and he's actually a 60 or so year old man.

Agreed fully, thinks what I was clunkily trying to get at. I also quite like the idea of the young peoples bit, get new fans into cheap seating. Making Strawberry corner the new singing section would have been nice, but I reckon the penalties for persistent standing might get the club into bother in such a visible area. Safe standing!

This is exactly why I won't go to home games this season.

    Hate to say it.

Love St James' Park but when I travel all the way from Belgium I would like to go and sing my heart out for the lads with fellow Newcastle supporters. I only get to do it 2-3 times a season so I want to make sure there will be singing and standing up.

This and your right they are killing the atmosphere at SJP.

When I started to go the Gallowgate and Leazes would both be full voice, not just a small section the whole end would join in, now people just sit, some show no emotion at all.

Unfortunately lots of fans who will stand and sing need others to start it off rather than be part of a group or even an individual who starts a song. With singers split so much and lots of songs "dying" quickly most of these never start singing so the atmosphere is dead.
Since the advent of all seater stadiums noone can deny the comfort and conditions at grounds now has vastly improved making match day a much safer and more pleasant experience and with it attracting more youngsters and families which in itself is great. Sadly the money men only see the money and really couldnt care less about the atmosphere. Most probably have never experienced it and in truth are even a little frightened of it. The singing section was a brilliant idea tho and worked quite well so quite why it was done away with is baffling. If we had capacity crowds with loads more wanting seats and willing to pay top wack for them you could understand it a bit but thats obviously not the case.
Standing sections would be brilliant but sadly i fear wont happen.
Funny tho how the powers that be give us the health and safety argument against standing at seats yet the same places (St James Park included) have pop concerts where loads stand and sing and dance and nothing is done about it there. I also dont recall strings of seat related injuries being reported from these events.
