Agreed. I said I wouldn’t feel excited for England yet here I am. Please, just play on the front foot and go for. And don’t look petrified! Also, Chris Coleman is no great shake as a manager by any means (in fact I think he’s pretty ****) and his squad was worse than this England one, but Wales grafted and they wanted it and they put in some lovely performances. There’s no reason we shouldn’t be able to at least do that.
In recent games I have seen an England team with players that are happy to run at defenders and commit them to diving in or coming out of position, to create space for others. I have been genuinely excited by some of our attacking play which, in many cases, has just lacked a clinical final ball or finish. Not over convinced with our defending, so our game plan, IMO, needs to be to just go for it.
I’m going to the pub to watch it with a German friend. I think she’s hoping that I’ll end up even more pissed off than her.
Is it just me? I really am struggling to get excited for this one? I don't feel negative about it, but feel nothing. Weird. Maybe I am still jet lagged or maybe I am turning American, as I have checked the baseball scores/fixtures today....
WC doesn't feel the same without Italy in it mate, maybe that's it? Anyway, I'm not nervous. I'm just quietly looking forward to the game. Which is odd in itself. Quite looking forward to Belgium v Panama too. World Cup's been great so far. It's never all about England for me (until 7.00pm tonight)
Hoping gym will be pretty empty as quite a few people will be watching the game instead. Should hopefully get home for last 30 mins or so.
That's the optimism of youth mate. You wouldn't feel that way if you'd had your heart broken by Gert Muller when you were 9. I have never really recovered from that experience.
They'll come flooding back, don't worry. But think of the relief when the whistle blows and we are still 2-1 up (though I think we'll win 2-0).
You can equally be damaged by watching England win the World Cup....then spend fifty years expecting it to happen again.
