If the club are asking us for donations towards the academy it would be a slap in the face selling our youth prospects before getting a run in the first team . The Murphy twins brought in £20m . .
They were investment bonds rather than donations, DD. Good for the Academy, good for the investor, IMO. For me it's more about what Godfrey is worth to us. Given his ability to play DM, CM, RB or CB and his potential for development he could be worth around £10m next year after playing a season with us. Who are we going to sell next year to balance the books? Yes, in that sense he's not an academy product. Even so, I still think we should hold on to him given that Southampton's bid for Madders is rumoured to have been accepted. Surely £30m+ is enough sacrificial selling for this window. http://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/norwich-city-fc-1-5564646
Southampton, that should be good for us, in 1 or 2 years Liverpool will buy him and we should get a nice cut of an excessive fee. Let's get this done so Webber can get on with signing the players we're gonna need to stay midtable. Sorry to see Madders go, but it was inevitable, I think the lads awesome and will follow his career where ever it takes him. Bah!
Excellent post Rick and let's HOPE that selling JM for that sort of fee does mean we can keep hold of Godfrey, as I'm certain he'll go on to become an excellent player. Also - Jarvis and Naismith are both out of contract in 2019, s that's a MASSIVE saving!!!
The other advantage to negotiating with Southampton is that it makes any deal for Reed easier. Equally, it wouldn't surprise me if the club have leaked this news to try and bring other clubs to the negotiating table.
Well I won't be buying any new £60 shirts or buying bonds in the near future. We sold everyone at the club who can score and last season the goals from Murphy and Maddisson kept us up. I don't like Farke and his style of play is painful to watch. If we let Godfrey and Lewis go too we may as well give up now. This Norwich city doesn't resemble anything that I know or love anymore and even if we raise £50m by selling our only talent the funds will just be used to pay for the mistakes of the last few seasons. Out of all the players Webber signed the only 2 good enough for this league are Trybull and Hanley ,If a decent offer comes in we will sell them too. I would much rather play the likes of Cantwell Godfrey Abrahams and the under 23 squad than sell them and buy even more Bundesliga mediocre crap. The club has zero ambition and the fans are not getting value for money with one of the highest ticket prices in the division.
Hi, Saints fan here. Just wondered what your views on Maddison are. We've rumoured to have a 20mill bid accepted. He seems to be very highly rated.
Can we interest you in a Steven Naismith instead? His record in the Premier League is better than Maddison's in every department.
Didn't he get a hat-trick against Chelsea too ? I would be devastated if Saints swooped for him instead.
Must say I'm a little bit disappointed, no offence to Southampton but I was kinda hoping Maddison would go to Spurs or Liverpool.
The bidding war may be hotting up. The Mail reported at 16.14 that Leicester have bid £22m and a later article says that both Leicester and Southampton have bid £24m and that Madders will choose between the two clubs. http://the72.co.uk/105972/24million-fee-agreed-premier-league-duo-chase-norwich-attacker/ No idea how reliable that source is though.
He may struggle to start with, but I'll be VERY surprised if he doesn't propel you towards the top half of the PL!!!!
