Have you seen it again? It is such a quick turn he didn’t even have time to think about putting his foot anywhere. I really am struggling to see what you’re seeing.
I’ve only seen a replay, and I thought it was a clear pen. The defender was going for where the ball would have been if he hadn’t changed direction. I think VAR will mean less penalties given in real time, but paradoxically more given on review than would have been given before VAR. As HR says, it will lead to less tackles being attempted in the box.
At the time live, before a replay, I thought it was a penalty. Nothing I’ve seen since has given me even an inkling to think different.
I've managed to catch at least some of every match so far 3 afternoon/evening matches today certainly helped with the fact I'm working!
I don’t like VAR. I feel it will be abused. Players will feel the slightest touch and chuck themselves to the ground. The pundits will say, there’s a slight touch so it’s a pen. It’s going too far now.
