So it is Captain Harry! "Striker Harry Kane will captain England at the World Cup in Russia, manager Gareth Southgate has announced." https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/44208841
told you so..... Not sure it is a good decision though...always prefer a midfielder or possibly a defender (CF have to be so selfish). However I am not sure any of the midfielders are guaranteed a place yet (Henderson certainly isn't)
I fear that with Lallana and Wilshire missing, Henderson will be one of the first names on the team sheet. Him, Delle and Dier to start the first game in a three I reckon .
Last night I saw Poland's last friendly against Lithuania before flying out to today to their camp in Sochi. The score was Poland 4-0 Lithuania and the opposition were very poor. The match was notable for 3 VAR decision which were in fact correct: - Robert Lewandowski's direct free kick went in off the cross-bar (clearly crossed the line which the refs did not originally see) - Grzegorz Krychowiak's back heel goal was later dissallowed for a correct handball decision (ref missed it again) - Penalty correctly awarded for a Poland penalty converted by Kuba laszczykowski (ref missed the event and initially gave a corner). This was my first live experiecne of VAR and I admit that the decisions were correct, however the communcation system was poor causing real confusion in the stadium. I really thought the score board had an error only to discover that a goal was dissallowed after being officially announced. Surrealistic! To add a QPR spin to this post, Lewandowski scored a great goal from a direct free kick. I don't recall one from the R's during all of last season.
And the winner is ..... Belgium? An interesting tongue in cheek analysis. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/44431262
Not sure about reports coming out about Russian behaviour. My son arrives today, he’s gone in with an Australian FanID and has tix to France and Denmark. He’s trying to get ticket to England Belgium game too. Fingers crossed, he’ll have a good time and enjoy
Second game syndrome kicking in. After the result yesterday, it's pretty obvious that this has become a 'must not lose' game for both sides, as they appear to be aiming for 4 points (a draw here, lose to Russia and beat Saudi) and hope for second place on goal difference. Only way I think Egypt will score is if Salah comes on. Suarez wouldn't score if they played all day.
Are you watching? I am on a conference call, trying to write a presentation and scanning here. Watching would probably cause an aneurysm, I’m not multitasking very well.
The commentators on 5 live sound like they're falling asleep watching the Morocco Iran game - is it that poor?
Morocco score an OG in the 95th minute - nightmare for them. Only the 2nd game Iran have ever won at the finals.....
Don't need to watch the matches... Just turn on after 90 minutes....and guaranteed a goal or 4 Sent from my STF-L09 using Tapatalk
Yet to see anything approaching a team performance so far (although I've only kept half an eye on today's games). Lots of technically competent individuals but no sustained pressure or possession. My favourite commentator'quote so far was by Jonathan Pearce earlier - "It's cold here. A bit like a chilly September evening in just a t-shirt." - just put on a jumper or a coat then.
