Morning Eric, I can't think of many Chairman in the league that have been as bad as Bates, perhaps Oysten?
Just to help you guys out over this fraught manager change period for you, you can predict our relegation point from this list.... https://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/2018/june/201819-premier-league-fixtures/
Maybe Chesh, but it gives a chance of getting some points on the board early. When I look at what follows, I think to myself....
Not panicking on Bielsa - thoughts have always been that for it to work both sides have to be totally honest and in agreement of what can be offered and it seems that the main part of the deals in place but there's not just 1 person to agree there's also the back room team complete with permits etc. Also would say that it's Orta who apparently has been the main driving force in getting him. Don't think the delay is any reflection on the club. We got rid of Heckingbottom at the right time (well yes the right time to get rid of him would have been by never having signed him...) but we got rid of him as early as we could while not having to pay compensation. The alternative would be impossible which is to keep him on until next manager had signed. As for Jerry he seems to have become the scapegoat of the scapegoat. If he becomes the only or major signing of the summer then yep I'd be concerned but I don't think that will happen so pretty relaxed about whether we sign him or not. In terms of chairmen I'll go with Silver Rads Ridsdale GFH Cellino Bates
Morning DBC, perhaps some of the older fans can give an insight into Leslie Silver. Who was he, and was he popular?
In terms of chairmen I'll go with Silver Rads Ridsdale GFH Cellino Bates
It’s a proper rogues gallery isn’t it. Problem with ridsdale is if it wasn’t for the probably well-meaning sad vain Cnut, we wouldn’t have had the potless chancers and pond life that followed. He created the situation that led to the others which makes him bottom of any list for me.
Radrizzani just nips it ahead of bates the reason i have chosen bates as 2nd place and the ones below him as rubbish apart from possibly silver is that in my view bates saved the club Leeds united by going into receivers and rubbing out the debt and also because in my view bates knew how to negotiate the rest i would not give them church funds to manage .
I saw the back end of his time at Leeds but his popularity definitely rose over time (as in after he finished). He certainly wan't as universally loved at the time as in retrospect he is. He became chairman in '83 so 6 fairly skint unsuccessful years and then even post success things like selling Batty to pay for the East stand did not go down well as he said in a book 'Silver reflected on the antagonism he faced when Leeds failed to build on the League title. "When we won the championship I was very popular as a Yorkshireman. But when things went wrong I was criticised by some fans as a Jew."
