It's not the lack of signings as of today that concern me, but if the Echo report is correct, why just start moves now, when most other clubs have probably been in discussions for the past several weeks. Again the list of targets will go down to the 5th / 6th choices. Still get the impression that certain people at the club, marvel in their glories and have their heads firmly stuck up their asses. They should all feel lucky to have a job imho after the debacle of last season, especially.

I think some people hear rumours about other clubs and then forget that rumours are often wrong and the deals don't always go through because several clubs are looking at the same players. Sometimes the rumours are about deals that are never likely to be up and running. And other deals are for players that we aren't interested in. The same fans then forget that and think it is only our club that is taking its time.

Remember there are 19 other clubs in the EPL and only one of us....there are bound to be more rumours about them than us. I would like deals to happen, but only the right ones.

Transfers will happen when they happen.
Only those with an inside track will know if we have been slow out of the starting blocks, or if we are well into negotiations with some.
Bottom line, for me, is that we are not as attractive to potential signings as we were at the start of the last season, simply because of the way we performed and our last minute escape from relegation.
Some players, IMO, will be waiting to see if other clubs, that didn’t have such a traumatic season as we did, make approaches, before saying yes to us.

I'm just very anxious to avoid a repeat of January where we went after promes up until the last minutes and failed to get him and had no time to sort out anything else.

That kind of coincides with what my contact said a few days ago........incidentally I did ask why Saints were once again slow off the blocks......the response was a roll of the eyes and a shrug..........I then asked him if it was a communication problem with owners.....his reply was......amongst other things. So make of that what you will.

That’s not true we signed Carillo and he turned out to be an epic buy.

    Sky:

'Fenerbahce are leading Southampton in the race to sign Barcelona striker Paco Alcacer, according to Sporx.

The Saints are keen to land Alcacer, who is surplus to requirements at Barca, but they will have to fend off strong competition from Fenerbahce to secure his signature.

The Turkish side are boosted by the fact that their president Ali Koc has a good relationship with his Barcelona counterpart Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Southampton, meanwhile, are reportedly willing to pay €20m to sign the former Valencia forward.'

Don't recall Carillo doing anything with his head.

Have never said this about a player who has been given so little time but please can we send him on loan? He wasn't even making the bench in the final games- says a lot.

If we are looking for a target man, the surely Rondon at West Brom fits the bill?
Apparently he has a decent release clause, and from what I saw, looks like a decent player.

Yes. Doesn't he usually play as part of the attacking three?

There's always Crouchie I'm sure he could be bought for peanuts :emoticon-0140-rofl:

No idea. But he seemed to give a crap about his team, scored goals too.

Does he? He hasn't got into double figures in any of his three seasons at WBA - despite hardly missing a league match.

I think we scored a hat-trick the season before last. And then followed it up with a goal drought of about 20 games.

Given his clause is the best part of £20m (not exactly Johnny Evans' £3m clause), I'd rather save the money thanks.

I'd take Crouchie back, maybe a rolling contract but its certainly an area we are lacking.

Yeah fair point. Just looked at his 3 seasons scored 9 1st 8 2nd and 7 this season. So he's the ideal Saints player, on target to score 6 next season! Lol

The return of Crouchie...sounds like a tall tale to me!

I don't know. I would put Shane Long on the bench before Carillo. But I would be more likely to start Carillo over Long.

Austin was our best, proven striker so when healthy he had to start. Long has useful speed and is always willing and hard worker so makes for a great sub. Both those players would be way more used to the side and the league. Basically, we couldn't **** around.

Not saying that Carillo should start. Just that IMO, none of our strikers should be a guaranteed starts or even a place on the bench or the team. We for sure have to buy some attackers who are better than any we have and build around them. If a hold-up man works with that, then let Carillo play. If not, go with someone else. Try to sell at least one guy if you can. We start with a clean slate as far as I'm concerned... not in a good way.
