If they are enforced properly it would be good to have these rules but it would be bad for Chelsea and City who make losses every year as they would be excluded from European competitions. I can't see UEFA enforcing that to be honest.
To be fair, you need to get your facts right. A loan was taken out by the Glazer family to buy United, and this was then secured against the club. Before that we used to spend money anyway, our own money, earnt on the pitch and through merchandise. We reached (and won) the European Cup final 6 years before the Glazers took over. We have never gone into debt to buy players/pay wages, (like Leeds or Portsmouth) nor have we ever been bankrolled (like Chelsea or Man City).
The North Of England will dominate yet again, to be more precise the North West of England, just tell me the last South of England team to win the Champions League/European Cup?
Jip Jaap Are you a Manchester United supporter. I am surprised you seem to be happy with the ownership of your club. Its not so long since many united fans were out burning their bras (and that was the men folk) in protest of the ownership. I thought all true Utd fans had left Utd to the prawn sandwich brigade and glory hunters.
I am also a United supporter (have been all my life) and I refuse to protest the Glazers ownership because debt aside they are good owners who do not meddle in footballing matters unlike Ambramovich at Chavski
I think this thread was started so the Scottish could forget about their sorry ass excuse of a league.
No, it was started because two potential title challengers got 13 goals walloped past them yesterday.
The current Premiership champions fall into the same bracket as they make a loss every year now - any reason for not mentioning them?
Well, if two teams who have finished in the top 4 and 5 aren't seen as title challengers then it just shows the discrepancy between the Manchester teams and Chelsea, and all the rest. It doesn't augur well that the team who finished 4th last season has just conceded eight goals, and the team who finished fifth conceded five.
Yeah you say that, but the team that just scored 8 only beat the team that finished 11 by the odd goal and its the same with the team that just scored 5 could only beat the team that finished 14th by the odd goal. The league is still very competitive. Both Arsenal and Spurs haven't strengthened their teams and they were always on for a hiding to nothing. Noone expected them to concede by as much as they did but performances weren't unsurprising.
When did I say I was happy with the Glazers? I even stated that they had made a leveraged takeover, and who would be happy with that? I was merely refuting the insinuation that United have borrowed their way to success. Before loan repayments (which have been forced upon us by the greed of our owners), we make an operating profit every season, in fact our turnover is the the biggest in world sport. Hence we don't need to "get a £590m bank loan" as claimed by the ****wit earlier on.
i love the last line here, the bit about a bully session where the richest and greediest take all. HAHA, i take it Superhoops is a Celtic fan? isnt this exactly what the OF have been doing since the dawn of time? maybe teams in the SPL outside the OF might want to take issue with this?
Manchester United does not make a loss. Red Football Joint Ventures (set up by the Glazers) makes the loss. As I stated earlier, according to Forbes, United are financially in excellent health. Our owners, on the other hand, aren't doing quite as well. The problem arises if they decide to fall back on United to cover their losses in other areas.
Bit harsh Jip, Don't have to get personal with it, wasn't trying to attack Man U, just saying if we had access to the same funds as the English sides then we could get to the semi's every year aswell!
true, but how long before you to would overspend and become heavily in debt? to compete with the best, you have to spend big. this is true of Man U, Man City, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barca. OF fans, dont kid yourselves, IF you had access to EPL money, you to would be dragged into spending above your means to achieve at the pinacle of football. i suspect your fans would not only expect it, they would demand it.
Apologies mate, that was a bit harsher than intended. It just irritates me a little when people make out that United's success is solely down to money. Throughout history, United have also relied heavily on our academy. And when we have spent heavily, we've had every right to, it's been our own money. Not borrowed or donated, earned through success on the pitch and sensible but enterprising commercial ventures.
Pot, kettle, black? The SPL and the OF? The EPL is the biggest, best and most competitive league in the world. EPL clubs performance in the CL proves it. The EPL desperately needs more CL places. It's totally unfair it only gets 4. Clubs like Liverpool or Arsenal are going to lose out and they should be in it.
