Posted the question on the Fulham board. Cottager reckons he was given the run around by them so wouldn't be up to their standards. I did ask why they wouldn't want a player from a team that finished above them in the league.
Fulham are a nice looking footballing team however, I think their supporters have become a tad too pretentious. Half a season unbeaten (all be it apart from the final day ) is something that would get to anyone's head. They just need to remember that regardless of that run, we were consistent ALL season (minus a couple of games) and Bennett was instrumental in keeping us there.
Given the loans they had last season, they've quite a few holes to plug before they start uping the quality of their squad. Most of our loanees were squad players. Apart from grujik and bryson we didn't have any regular starting loanees and they played less than a season between them. The nucleus of our team next season will already know the Warnock way so we should hit the ground running (though that may not be good enough). If Fulham start the way they did last year there will be no coming back. If they make too many changes to their squad, that may be a possibility.
BBC are reporting we’re close to signing Josh Murphy for £11 million from Norwich. Young, pacy creative winger that ticks the box?
£11 million for Murphy! Not too sure we want this guy. Some fan quotes: "Anything over £10m for Murphy is good business. Even in today's market you'd have to say he's worth about £5m-6m, so it certainly makes sense. Also allows the club to be even more robust regarding keeping or getting the best possible fee for Maddison" "On his day Murphy is a match winner but it’s a shame that day is only every 10 games or so. Had enough chances and the money offered is far more than he’s worth. Just hope we can reinvest in players that are more consistent #ncfc" "£11m... Quick, take the money before they realise they've made a mistake!! #NCFC #daylightrobbery" "Josh Murphy. Talented? Yes. Hardworking? No. His attitude ruined his chance here at Norwich, although I hope he goes on to do well. A great deal for #ncfc; no way he is worth £10million. Door very much open for Leitner now, who I’ve previously said is likely to come back..." "My final word on Josh Murphy: a great young talent who never pushed on. He’ll be an asset to any counter attacking side but has left it too late to progress due to low footballing intelligence. I expect he’ll do well for Cardiff. And the reported £10m is a great deal. #ncfc #ccfc"
Fans tend to turn on players when they're on their way. They need the money big time and have to offload some players like Villa - sour grapes maybe? Despite the amount of cash involved, we'll take Murphy and they can have Wildschut back in return - let's see how much they get for him.
I'm quite happy with this signing, easy to have off days in an average championship team with a foreign manager wanting to play tippy tappy with crap players. Lets see how he gets on with the "Warnock Way". On another note if we are willing to pay £10m plus for a championship player is this a pointer that NW has been given a decent budget for transfers? I don't think Gunnarsson will sign a new contract either.
Less worried about gunnar than hoilett. Just need clarity to move forward. Colin gave him a deadline. If he's missed it tell him to find another club and make that announcement.
Couldnt agree more. I don't think Gunnar is our answer. He's a good player, but for me, not what we need.
Just hope he's not playing games hoping he has a good world cup to push his price up. Playing with fire that, especially given his recent injury record. Given he's been in Wales for 10 years has credibility with the club including 2 promotions to the prem you'd have thought he'd want to cement his place in bluebirds folk lore and put himself up there possibly alongside Fred Keynor. Or maybe the money is more important.
Gunnar has a contract until 30 June 2018, he's playing a silly game if he gets injured in the WC he will end up with no club. My opinion is I would tell him there is no longer a contract on the table.
Done deal then............ https://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/2018/june/done-deal--josh-murphy-signs-for-city/
