Here’s the latest! By Andy Tomlinson Jun 9, 2018, 7:30am BSTSHARE please log in to view this image Your daily reminder of Sunderland news! Roma rumours refuted Wahbi Khazri was linked with Roma earlier in the week with claims in the Italian and French media suggesting that the Serie A club were considering signing the 27-year-old as an alternative to Ajax playmaker Hakim Ziyech. But, in an interview with Italian radio station Centro Suono Sport, his agent Jean-Christophe Cano said there was no truth to those claims: No, I personally have not been contacted. I know Monchi [Roma’s Sporting Director] well, but we never talked about Wahbi. Although that appears to rule out Roma, Khazri is still attracting attention from a number of Ligue 1 sides with Monaco, Lyon, Nice and his former loan club Rennes all credited with an interest in the player. Tunisia play Spain in Krasnodar later today, but Khazri will miss out despite recovering from injury as the North African side look to wrap him in cotton wool ahead of the World Cup finals next week. please log in to view this image Goalkeeping duo out of contract A goalkeeper Sunderland have been reportedly interested in signing, 19-year-old Max Johnstone - younger brother of one time Sunderland target Sam - has been released by Manchester United. United announced their retained list yesterday and it confirmed Johnstone’s departure. Sunderland, Cardiff City and Bury have all ‘expressed interest’ in the ‘keeper according to ESPN. Another goalkeeper’s future is in doubt at Man Utd, with England U21 international Dean Henderson out of contract at the end of the month. Henderson starred on loan at Shrewsbury in League One last season, and is stalling on signing a new contract so may leave in the search for regular first team football. please log in to view this image Max Johnstone Coton move scuppers Villa transfer Although Sunderland haven’t officially confirmed Tony Coton’s appointment as the club’s Head of Recruitment, the ex-goalkeeper has left Aston Villa and should be announced in the coming days. Coton’s departure from Villa Park has already had repercussions as it looks to have scuppered the Midlands’ club’s move for Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Sean Clare, according to the Sheffield Star. The 6’3” midfielder is out of contract at Hillsbrough at the end of the month and is yet to commit to the contract Wednesday have offered him. The Star claims Coton’s move to Sunderland - as well as Villa’s perilous financial plight - may force Villa to look elsewhere. please log in to view this image Naylor joins Portsmouth Tom Naylor had been linked with Sunderland on a regular basis in 2018 - the versatile player was out of contract at Burton Albion at the end of the month, which made him quite an attractive proposition as Chris Coleman and then Jack Ross looked to rebuild ahead of next season. He won’t be coming to Sunderland though as the 26-year-old joined League One rivals Portsmouth yesterday. Naylor has agreed a three-year deal with Kenny Jackett’s side and will sign officially on July 1st. He featured 33 times for the Brewers last season as they joined us in exiting the Championship.
Sunderland are in the market for centre-halves and they have been linked with Blackpool defender Clark Robertson this morning. Robertson impressed for Blackpool last season and he is available on a free transfer this summer. The 24-year-old has attracted interest from the likes of Wigan, Blackburn and Bolton and he is believed to have held talks with a number of clubs this summer. The Sunderland Echo claim that Sunderland are one of those clubs as Jack Ross looks to add proven League One experience to his exciting young squad. The Black Cats are in desperate need of centre-halves this summer. John O’Shea and Marc Wilson both departed the club this week, while Jake Clarke-Salter and Tyias Browning have returned to their parent clubs after their loan spells. That leaves just Lamine Kone and Papy Djilobodji as the club’s two senior centre-halves - both of whom are expected to leave the club this summer. As a result, Sunderland will likely look to bring in three or four new signings in that position and a move for Robertson - who is available on a free - would make sense. The 24-year-old has spent three years at Bloomfield Road after leaving Aberdeen in 2015 and he has two seasons of League One experience to bring to the table. Sunderland are looking to bring in players with League One experience and have been linked with moves for Scunthorpe winger Hakeeb Adelakun and AFC Wimbledon forward Lyle Taylor in recent days.
A number of players linked north of the border.... https://rokerreport.sbnation.com/20...e-future-of-heavily-linked-sunderland-targets
I'm quite keen on Scottish players for a few reasons. Ross will know the good ones, they're cheap, tend to have good attitudes and judging by how we got schooled by Celtic's kids are better than they get credit for.
Hope the ‘talks’ go better than they did with Naylor last week. Allegedly, we couldn’t match the wages Pompey offered which is why he signed for them.? Hopefully wages constraints aren’t gonna scupper some of the players Ross wants?

Aberdeen have also made a formal inquiry but have not taken the approach further. Derek Adams’s Plymouth Argyle are also reportedly interested. With Jack Ross, who worked with Naismith for two months at St Mirren, now in charge of rebuilding Sunderland, they have emerged as clear favourites to tempt the right-sided defender south with a £200,000 bid. But County’s management team of Steven Ferguson and Stuart Kettlewell are desperate to retain Naismith, who is under contract until summer 2020, for the Championship promotion push. Chairman MacGregor said he wants to meet Naismith today before considering sanctioning his departure. MacGregor said: “Jason has been on holiday and is only just coming back. We’ve had a couple of bids in and a couple of inquiries and I don’t want him to go. I want him to stay and help us make the recharge towards the Premiership. “He might feel this is not the place for him and he wants to play at the highest level he can. It will very much be when I talk to him that I see how he really feels about it. “The management team and I don’t want players here who are not going to be 100% for the cause. We want hungry players who want to be at the club. “I need to check that out with Jason and understand exactly where he is in his thoughts. “We have made it clear we want him but does he want the club?” Naismith was widely considered Ross County’s standout performer last season as the club slipped towards relegation disaster. The St Mirren youth product, who represented Scotland at every level up to the under-21s, and made more than 100 appearances in five seasons for the Paisley club before joining Jim McIntyre’s County squad in January 2017.
Reading and Forest are also after him. Barry Fry on Marcus Maddison: Three Championship clubs interested in him. Donald says we haven't missed out on any of our targets yet. I wouldn't get upset about paper rumours not coming true, we just have to wait and see what happens.
