The clear out at Pool begins, Can was always going, I thought Flannagan was an excellent young player until injury

 

I’m not sure Can counts as part of a clear out. He clearly chose to leave on a free by not agreeing a new contract.

 

Yeah, but what choice do they really have?

I agree they need to reinvest the money, but I would rather see us churn through players than attempt to re-sign all of our so-called "best" players to long-term contracts.

 

Instead, we've been signing a lot of our "happy to be here" players to long-term contracts. Net result is that we're underspending on acquisitions and we have a bloated wage budget filled with middling players.

 

That's coz the not happy to be here players move on.... People whine that we aren't making any attempt to keep a core squad together and then whine when they sign and don't move on. Fickle perhaps?

 

I’m not sure it’s fickle, maybe we just need to admit we signed some pretty **** player to long term, expensive contracts.

And they also did that with VVD and sold him at huge profit. And never reinvested. That has happened for maybe 3 years...

 

Or perhaps we need to consider that we have the cause-and-effect backwards, and players who are in little demand are often the ones happier to remain here, particularly if given large contracts as rewards.

 

Another effect of this is the player in question doesn’t need to try and produce man of the match performances. They don’t train with the same intensity as another player looking to improve themselves or who after a transfer to a better team. I guess another cause could be injury, age and even lazyness. Players are human after all.

 

Have we signed anyone yet?

 

Nope... don’t be silly, all our scouts will be too busy watching the World Cup! I don’t think we will sign anyone until late July.

 

Or well into August......oh!

 

Doesnt it shut a few weeks earlier this year too? Gonna be a hell of a scramble after the WC.

 

Just noticed Hoedt posted this a couple of days so which should put this Instagram non saga to bed. Looks like he's expecting to stay.

We're exactly two months from the close of the window, yeah.

 

Well only the best teams will still be involved in the World Cup by mid July. These sort of players will be out of our reach anyway.

I can not believe with a whole world of football players to choose from we can’t find a couple of gems!
