Most fans wanted a striker. The past 4 or 5 windows. After selling a lot of our best players, 1 striker is not "down that route". Noone expects a 20M striker or to pay someone anywhere near 100K a week. I've not read anyone posting that kind of b*llocks on here. Fans here expect very little.
I saw someone on twitter proposing Norwich should approach Red Bull about being an English addition to their "empire"....
Again, I've not said "spend money like a r***rd we have needed 1 striker for about 5 windows. We sold Pritchard for 12m, Jerome about 2m. Derby can sign a class Championship striker for under 2M. If we want a striker, "we are ruining the club"
Webber will sort it out. I'll be gobsmacked if a shiny new striker doesn't appear this window, (perhaps two if Oliveira can be shifted). Don't forget we needed a new CB for about 5 or 6 windows too before Klose arrived followed swiftly by others.
Michael Bailey's latest article on Buendia confirms that Tom Scully has signed from Everton, as was discussed a few pages back. Another Phillips-like signing.
Watkins came to us on a free transfer after scoring 10 goals for Barnsley in the Championship, so it was hardly a ridiculous signing. He hasn't worked well in DF's approach, but that's not entirely his fault. Bristol City are keen on him and said to be offering £1m for him. That'd be good business for us. Warnock rates Wildschut (thanks DH) and he did well enough for Cardiff in his 10 appearances until his mistake giving the ball away to concede a goal. Like Watkins, he hasn't worked well in DF's approach, but that's not entirely his fault either. I still think Cardiff will sign him for a decent proportion of the £4m we paid for him (not the rumoured £7m) but we'll see. We may be waiting for Buendia to be confirmed before things proceed. Like HMQC I think we'll sign a striker (or maybe two if Oliveira leaves) as a priority once we know who's leaving
I think "rated" might be a more apt description, but hopefully the permanent transfer is a formality.
So some 'Fekir' having a medical for Loserpool - they're not messing about this transfer window. Fee of around £50M
Liverpool are in a similar position to us they can only afford certain players if they are in the right league. For us if we make it to the PL then we can afford better players, For Liverpool if they make it to the Champions league they can afford better players. Getting to the Champions league semi-final this season and getting into the Champions league next season is a significant reason why they can attract and afford the players they're signing.
Given the surprise nature of the loan to a 'rival' late in January, I'd be amazed if it wasn't definite if Cardiff gained promotion. I suspect that's what made the Buendia transfer agreement possible last January. If not, it asks real questions about SW's negotiations.
