We certainly did Looking at Villa now, and what nearly happened to us, and what could possibly happen to Swansea is a lesson to all of these clueless owners of football clubs - that you need more than money to make this work.
Could have happened to us if we didn’t get promoted too! Although I’d like to think the fat man wouldn’t see us tank. Just increase the debt to him
If by snuffs it, you mean he dies, I think the debt would be instantly written off (no idea though). If you mean he sells, the selling price includes the debt so we’d be ok!
Our debt to him would surely just pass through his estate to someone else. We'd be fine though, the value of the club outweighs our debt by some margin so someone would still want to buy us and pay off that debt. The issue is how precarious existence is for so many clubs based on which league they are in next season - it is crazy and unsustainable.
I keep hearing that we still owe many millions as we buy players on a sort of hire purchase system, we pay over several years instead of buying outright. The sum of about £25 million being bandied about. Does anyone know if we are owed any ‘hire purchase’ type of sum? Was Pickford (and Henderson) a cash sale. How will the likes of Borini and Lens be paid for. Same with Kone, O’Video and maybe McNair. Will what we owe be balanced by what we will be getting back in? Finally, off topic but does anyone know when the Northern Spire will be open. The last I heard it was on course to be opened by Spring. I drove by it today and it looks weeks (if not months) away from being finished.
The painting was delayed because of bad weather, apparently, which put it 5-6 weeks behind schedule. It was due to finish by 'the end of spring' (whenever that is) which suggests towards the end of this month to me
"know" is more subjective than is helpful here. There certainly does seem to be amounts of money scaling well into the millions still owed for players previously purchased and there will certainly be money coming in during the summer from sales. The best gauge for how well they tally up is the noises coming out of the club and it appears that SD and CM are happy to say no to decent money for players like McNair if it doesn't suit Sunderland. That means one of two things: 1 - Money is pretty good for the moment, there's no need to panic and the fans can look forward to a summer where compared to the teams you're against you strengthen well 2 - SD and CM are excellent bluffers and are driving the prices of the players up well To be honest, whilst I hope 1 is correct, either is an improvement on previous.
fails to mention how our new investor is on board pending efl approval, with player sales we're going to be safe as houses for the next few years.
