I agree it's a different animal now. Look at old pictures of fans at games and it's all men wearing flat caps, now it's almost - to use your phrase - the 'nouveau riche' fans with ipads in Armani jeans. Things change and while I agree with you that the club need to keep competing financially as well as on the pitch, I don't like the idea of being greedy with the tv money. Are you in favour of them agreeing their own tv deal?

Living in an overseas market I can tell you that, whereas there is money to be made, it's not reliable long term money. Overseas fans are a lot less loyal than local fans and frequently change their alliegence based on who is winning.

I imagine they would quickly change the league they watch too if they saw it as better.

It's good money for now, but don't count on it always being available long term... And if you ever drop down the table the money from overseas fans will drop quickly.

I agree that the clubs that attract the biggest overseas audiences should get a bigger cut of the overseas money than those clubs that don't, but only the overseas market, I think the domestic deal is fair enough apart from the two seasons "parachute payments" to relegated clubs, a one off "see you later payment" is enough.

Fair enough. I think it should be shared equally because the bigger teams need the smaller teams to be able to compete. I don't know how likely it is that the bigger clubs can break away and make their own deals. It would be interesting to see if they did whether overseas buyers would still be interested in the rights to show the other games minus the big teams.

Cheers for the link jb <ok>

I think it's only a matter of time before there is a breakaway, but tomorrow's AGM could keep the wolves from the door if the "big six" win enough votes for a bigger slice of the overseas dosh.
But Turkey's don't vote for Christmas do they.:emoticon-0105-wink:

I don't because it's utter bollocks, the big 6 have got a big enough advantage as it is, looking for more is just plain ****ing greedy in my eyes. <ok>

Parachute payements are an unfortunate necessity due to the financial gap between the two divisions, unless you're happy for clubs to go to the wall?

Nah he did a decent job in keeping us up when most thought it was too late. Can see Wolves challenging the top 7 year after next so no doubt you can replace us with them.

Before this bollocks gets out of hand and the top 6 clubs are called greedy, whoever the current top 6 would be at the time would vote for a bigger cut of the pie.

So to call the top 6 greedy is a bit rich as all the clubs would vote for it if they happened to be fortunate to be the top 6.

    Hypocritical ****s :bandit:

Well no not neccesarily as there's plenty of your own supporters who disagree with the concept too so how does it follow that fans of the smaller clubs wouldn't think in the same way?

Not up to the fans though is it.

It's up to the business owners who run the club we each support.

    Their morals are profit.

How are clubs that receive parachute payments going to the wall?

Those clubs have a distinct financial advantage over other Championship clubs from minute one because of the parachute payments, as for the overseas money share out, without the "big six" and the large audiences they generate the deal with foreign broadcasters would be a pittance of what it is now.

A bigger share for the top six for generating more income is surely better the alternative of them breaking away and negotiating their own deal, of course greed is a factor but that argument can go both ways, anyway stop causing arguments and concentrate on your night shift work.<grr>

    I do think it's greed.
The fact that if you swapped teams then they would display the same greed doesn't stop it being greed.

I don't think its greed. I think its dog eat dog.

The money flows through the clubs like water through a sieve.

If we can't get more then fans are on your back etc etc.

Its not like anyone benefits but the same scummy agents and players on fat pay.

it is really a snake eating its own tail here. eventually it has to run out of road and eat itself entirely.

CONFIRMED: Win for the Premier League's leading clubs. From 2019/20 some international TV cash will be determined on where a team finishes.

But "the maximum a club can receive in total central revenue payments is 1.8 times the amount received by the lowest-earning club"
