As if their last offer only had a £250000 increase. What a joke. Well done Mr Donald right way to do business with the transfer request.

It'll be interesting to see what McNair does, whether he's convinced by Ross and the new regime and wants to be part of it or if he'll happily turn his back for more pay. I don't believe every footballer only cares about cash as much as it might seem like it these days.

Probably depends who his agent is.

Due to his lack of contribution for us since he signed due to no fault of his own, I'd like to think he'd show the club and the fans abit of decency and respect and give us at least another season.

Yeah I see that as being a factor too. I know it would be if it was me.

Agreed, but I think his agent is trying to engineer the move for him
Someone is leaking all of this to the media - bids and amounts

It would be nice for him to give us some time considering the thousands we've spent on state of the art treatment for his injury.

I said 6-8m either earlier on this or another thread and I stand by that as a fair valuation for all parties. Brighton have made derisory offers based upon our situation and not the players true value up to now. However, whilst we hold and can afford his contact its our perogative to get the best possible price. Worst case scenario he plays for us next year. He doesn't seem the type to sulk and he's at a point where he HAS to play football. On this particular transfer we have plenty of leverage.

So while other clubs rinse PL teams for every penny they can, we're giving them a fair deal? Doesn't sound like toughening up to me mate. I hope we've become a hell of a lot tougher than that.

My question is how has his value gone up since we bought him?

Pretty sure we got him, as a premier league club, on a double deal with Love, for 5m. In the two years he's been here he's played maybe 20 games.

8m is a 100% increase for a player who remains unproven in the premier league. What he did have going for him was the winning mentality born into United youngsters. Two relegations on the trot likely counteracts that particular perk.

Just playing devils advocate here as I haven't seen as much of the lads in the last couple of years so I'm genuinely intrigued as to what makes him an 8m pound man in some people's eyes?

I'd say the rise is due to the inflation within the market since we bought him.

Think every player who is as good as they were 2 seasons ago now hold a higher value - the market has inflated so much - average championship midfielder will sell for £10m+ now. Christ they're talking about £30m for Grealish who is probably a decent Championship midfielder - I would say McNair is no worse than him to be honest from what I've seen of both. Both can pass and beat a man and turn up with goals and assists too. Just McNair isn't a player I would like to break the legs of - whereas Grealish is (due to his antics) - if Grealish is a £30m player, McNair is definitely a £10+m player!!

If we get 6-8m it doesn't represent 'toughening up' but it will be a signal that we are finally operating at a competitive level in the market. Anything more would be a bonus and any less will be a joke imo. I'd be happy just to know we are actually getting good value on outgoing transfers and not giving them away.

it comes to PL clubs I don't want fair deals, I want us to scalp them like everybody else does, that's the standard these days so it's the very least I expect. if we don't double our money on him with the further inflation and his form back end of the season I'll consider it failure. So 8m lowest or I won't be impressed. the fact we're not even returning a counter offer(slapping a price tag on him) shows nobody is anywhere near yet so that's comforting.

Here we go. Will Hughes, 23 years old, CM, did his cruciate ligaments same as Paddy, came back and showed a bit of form same as Paddy. Moved from Derby to Watford for £8.2m 12 months ago.

I think we got him on the cheap.
Moyes and the Dutch manager had been playing him for Man Utd, but Jose bought in new players.
So he became surplus to requirements and we nabbed him cheap
No need to pass that bargain on

That's a decent parallel with age and injuries but Hughes was considered a wonderkid for years so you'd expect an inflated price there. Not to mention he's had season upon season of first team experience.

Though McNair is an international. He does have that going for him over Hughes.
