What Bristol City boss Lee Johnson said about Jack Marriott's fee The Robins boss has spoken about the striker who has been linked with Leeds United, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest among other clubs. Bristol City are thought to be in the running for the signature of Peterborough striker Jack Marriott along with several other Championship clubs. Marriott scored 33 goals for the Posh last season and is the latest on a long line of strikers to be produced by the club. BetVictor previously had Bristol City among the favourites for his signature at a price of 10/1, but that has recently been cut down to 5/2. Bristol City are reportedly targeting another attacker to help deal with the potential sale of Bobby Reid, and Marriott is likely to move on from the club after owner Darragh MacAnthony confirmed he was available this summer. In an interview last month, Johnson may have dropped a hint about the club’s interest in Marriott. He said: “It could be that we can’t compete with Premier League finances, it could be even, you look at players like (Jack) Marriott at Peterborough, you are talking four or five million for a player in the Championship.” The fact that he knew the price of the striker indicates that he may have been interested in him in the past. An unknown club had a bid rejected in January as revealed by Director of football Barry Fry. “We have rejected a bid of £4m and unless there is a club prepared to break our transfer record we wouldn’t even sit down with them.” Peterborough are likely demand a big fee for Marriott, as they have a history of selling their centre forwards for a large profit. Dwight Gayle and Britt Assombalonga have both been sold before and have gone on to prove themselves at a higher level, so Marriott could be the next to do so. Marriott's next club is expected to become clear in the next few weeks, with the player destined for the Championship. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport...ws/jack-marriott-transfer-fee-bristol-1641883

The player has been given permission to talk terms etc. Thats all for today 3:24 PM - Jun 4, 2018 A tweet from Darragh MacAnthony, Steve Lansdown's opposite number at P/boro confirming acceptance of a bid, could it be us?
Well at least there appears to be some action on our behalf and let's hope the rumours are true. City tend to be somewhat quiet on the activity under way and although keeping it close to your chest may be the better way I still like positivity in words. I am away for 2 weeks and probably when I return some news could be done and dusted.
The player they was talking about according to what a poster put on OTIB as reported by SSN was Da Silva to Wigan
Your assuming of course he isn’t going to the other lot , you know the club that has more fans than the other 92 league teams put together
If true it does seem a lot of money , as Angelic pointed out its a big step up , look at Matty Taylor , appreciate he’s been unlucky with injuries since his arrival , but the championship is a much higher standard than league one. Would fit our MO , bringing in lower league players and bringing them on , and tbh we can’t compete for proven championship strikers , a debate for another time that one. It seems likely we will loose BR , and with Fam facing a 6 match ban we need someone , seems the next few weeks will be interesting times for us City fans. LJ’s stock is still relatively high but another poor window and a bad start to the season is not an option for him. I’m still uncertain how next season will turn out. , and a bit anxious if I’m honest. Would be interested to hear others views on how next season is like likely to pan out before we start to get a better picture once comings and goings are announced.
A lot will change depending on outgoings and incomings, so we won't have a good idea until our squad is finalised ahead of the new season, but at this moment in time I'm a bit nervous about our chances...
I guess I’m asking do we have faith , given it seems apparent some of our better players are likely to leave, that suitable replacements will be found? , obviously once we know outgoings and incomings we will be able to assess again .
Not that we are, but if we were restricted to a single 'big-money' purchase, I'd be looking far more at getting a very high quality centre midfielder in than yet another striker. I know we need to replace Reid, but even without him, the attacking players are less pressing an issue than in midfield. Having said that, Josh Brownhill is in a position to come back into the centre perhaps next year. He was shunted out wide last year and had a great season, it's so easy to forget he's only 22.
Signings are always risky, but whilst some people are questioning the success rate of transfers brought in, I think that pursuing young players on their way up over 'established' stars has been mostly positive. Some will decry that our better players leaving (seemingly, it hasn't actually happened yet!) shows that we're a selling club, not able to hold onto them. On the flip side, we must be doing something right to be in possession of such valuable assets and turning a tidy profit, whereas clubs like Aston Villa and Derby, who have tried to buy success and fallen short, are now looking as though they need to tighten their belts. The challenge comes from identifying the time when it is that the players who have remained have reached a level to compete and it is a risk worth taking to sign players for the here and now, rather than a few years down the road. I think we're approaching that point, which is why this coming season and this transfer window is particularly important. If we're essentially forced to cash in on first team stars then I might forgive us not making the playoffs in 18/19, but by the end of 19/20 we really ought to have reached them (or better) at least once...
I've thought this. Even with Korey Smith seemingly putting his injury troubles behind him, that there was such outcry whenever he filled in at right-back would suggest that we don't have suitable cover in central midfield. It'd be nice to have a real class act, who can be a physical presence, offer support to the defence and also be the supplier of penultimate passes for goals. Not asking for much then!
VILLA AND DERBY both gambled on a quick return / spend out, to buy their way up ….. both failed … Villa now are in deep s.... their final parachute payment likely to pay part of the tax bill? ……… would we have Kodija back? or Albert? … I would certainly have Albert for a couple million!
RR is going to be upset. Rumoured that Matty Taylor will be part of the deal. https://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk...orough-united-striker-jack-marriott-1-8523197
