All the best to ol boy Andrew Thornton as he bows out of the weighing room. 28 seasons he's been at the game for just over 1000 winners. You've got to love a trier with a style all of his own.
A rare visit to crap midweek racing for me tomorrow. Wolves 15.50 Natalie Express 5-2 Ladbrokes Given a horrible hold up ride last time she was flying at the finish but the winner had gone. The form of that race hasn't really worked out well, including the winner, but with a different pilot this time, I feel she will be bang there at the finish on her tapioca debut
gets the job done though , he's like froome , not great to watch , but definitely a horseman ! Very loyal guy , Alner , Mullins have never doubted him , seems universally respected , wish him all the best ! oh and a winner or two tommorow!
Uttoxeter 3.10 Come on Louis @ 33/1 each way. Debut over fences but has won a point back in 2015, coincidentally with the trainer in the saddle that day. Ran ok on first run back from a break lto at Bangor but should be fitter for this and over a more testing trip which may suit him better. Those at the top of the market are not youngsters making their way so maybe room for an outsider, with a low weight and decent course form to get competitive.
RIP The Tank. My favourite racehorse bar none. I was lucky to be there for his Gold Cup victory in 2008 and it was magical. The way after the first circuit he just pressed on and put everything behind him to the sword was brilliant (although at the time I thought the jockey was bonkers for doing it!). Marvellous memories of a great warrior of a horse.
RIP Denman, a truly great steeplechaser I still have a recording of Channel 4 Racing from the day he won his second Hennessy at Newbury, quite unforgettable and one of the greatest performances I have ever seen.
Based on his runs behind Harry Angel and Brando one would think that this should be a cakewalk for Sir Dancealot (Hamilton 3.30). However, he seems to do best with a strong gallop and therefore, in a small field, I would be slightly nervous to pile on at odds on
Lady Persephone 8.10 Weth I get 2 or 3 a month off a northern trainer and got this one tonight, the strike rate off them is around 25%. Up in trip from this seasons runs, small wager for interest.
