The Pistols/Wombles thing is not as ****ing mental as you might think.

There's long been a doubt as to whether Steve Jones played all or indeed any of the guitar parts on 'Never Mind The Bollocks'. Pistols fans and Jones himself swear that he did. John Lydon has given interviews where he's not outright denied it. Others, think it was guitar for hire, Chris Spedding, at least partially. Spedding was the first producer to record the Pistols and helped a lot on getting them a sound for the studio and all members speak very highly of what he did for them.

He was also inside this suit wielding his flying V for their hits in the 70's........

Chris Spedding played on many albums by someone I've loved almost all my life - Roy Harper. This shows Spedding as part of Harper's band and Harper's fantastic lyrics

He's a real talent. Roy Harper's someone that I've heard very little of but I like Spedding's playing on that.

You'll think I'm mental but he really reminded me of the sound of Billy Joel vocally, not stylistically. Just the sound of his voice....Harper that is.

That's a really polished version of his singing, generally it's a little more raw than that, and so the comparison with Joel is valid on here, but usually not so much. Harper's biggest commercial success (apart from huge audiences in the 70s to his live shows) is singing the lead on Have a Cigar on Pink Floyd's Wish you were Here album. None of the band could sing it and he was recording in the next studio and offered to do it. Nailed it as well.

Made several records with both Dave Gilmour and Jimmy Page and on Led Zepplin's 3rd or 4th album there is a song Hats off to (Roy) Harper dedicated to him
