They could indeed. Though top 10 in the Premier League with Benitez as manager, playing in front of 50k+ fans. On paper we don't look bad, it's just that realistically we know we're still a relegation contender next season.

When Kenedy came I don't think a permanent move was realistic, it's only if he enjoyed being here and doesn't get a notably better offer. I certainly don't think any of the big big teams will be coming in for him. I think 20-30% chance of happening.

I'm surprised some don't seem to rate Kenedy all that highly. To me he looks another high class player who has just been lost amongst the numbers at big clubs. Everyone was a bit nonplussed about Salah before he actually got given a run of games at Roma. There is something in Kenedy I really like. He has the skills for me, he has the pace. But he is also a brute of lad physically and he doesn't seem to mind the dirty work. He is an all rounder and he looked miles ahead of our lot when he arrived.

I'd love to see him here.

Just read something about Adama Traore being an option if Kenedy doesn't go through

Figures. Adama is a good player and more 'our level', is he likely to be a huge improvement on Atsu etc? No.

Newcastle Utd should not be developing young talent for 'big' clubs and sending them back to strengthen the oppo. We should be the loanees in this situation. I think loaning young players out to lower division clubs where they get loads of game time is a great idea. Loaning players to and from other Prem clubs without a buy option is not right for this club.

Loaning players to other PL clubs should be banned full stop. It would very quickly and fairly solve a massive problem with the financial imbalance.

Transfer, wage and foreigner caps. Back to the good old days. No more than 3 overseas player in matchday squads.

    Semi agree.

Windows should be once a year in the summer. It should close for everyone before the season starts and Managers/Coaches should manage and coach what they have at the start as opposed to buying your way out of trouble in January.

If you only have a transfer window every 3 years you deprive young players from being able to move up the “ladder” and economically smaller clubs who survive on selling would struggle.

Add to the above a ban on loans. For me it would be all loans but would settle for between PL clubs.

Would also add I can’t see the above happening as ”turkeys” don’t usually vote for Christmas.

TBF, this! Would certainly mean that teams would have to sort their academys out quickly.

The hype around transfer windows is too much of a money spinner for everyone though. They should definitely do away with that stupid winter window

I would like to see us do more loan to sign deals with the massive clubs. I really hope we sign kenedy. I have rarely seen a flair player put in a shift like him. Sane is the only player I can think of in the EPL right now.

I have said it before and I will say it again. There should be a limit to the amount of players you can loan out in each season. There is for loaning in players so why not the same going out.

The top clubs in Europe are hoovering all the best talent up in the hope they turn out to be class. Then loan them out (with loan fees and wages covered) so it costs nothing to have them on their books and then sell on for a massive profit.

Young players have no chance of developing.

There should also definitely be a limit to how many English players you should have in the first 11. I know this goes against European legislation currently but once we are out of the EU we can do what we want.

The problem is this will never happen as the Premier League NEEDS the top WORLD talent playing in the league so this is not going to change fast.

For example Kenedy signed for Chelsea for £7 million. He was loaned out to Watford (played 1 game) for a fee and to us for a fee with probably all of his wages covered by us. He has played for Chelsea 15 times and we are now as fans saying we should sign him for £20 million........

I know this is just one of the success stories but it happens all the time.

100% agree with that. It is awful practice.
Dunno if we have any on here and I'm sure you may be nice people if so but its exactly how I feel about private landlords. Hoover up properties and then rent them out to those that should be living in them anyway and basically get the place for free

The situation with loans is out of control. There are teams with 2 full squads out on loan, plus a 23 team, plus a 18’s team. Then a 25 man first squad. They will have over 100 players capable of taking part in first team football at a reasonable level.

The only reason is simple. Monopolisation. It’s the same as what giant corporations do to corner their market. The league have failed to address it over a long period and the net result is lesser competitiveness in teams outside the little club, and of course a further inflation of fees to get the quality left over. It then promotes a very volatile market with clubs willing to act with less integrity with regard to transfer business. This is not complicated to solve. They don’t because they are too well paid by the current system. It’s the nature of embracing their world and mixing of big business with sport. The sporting aspect is a mere notion paid lip service to. You can whinge about how your club is not getting stuck into it but I’d prefer it was a more gentlemanly approach from all. Something which genuinely encourages sporting spirit. Naive of course.

Strangely the one guy you’d expect to love that world is Ashley. His unwillingness seems to be through bitter experience and also realising the games moved past his level financially pretty quick. He will sell us eventually and then buy a sleeping giant to turn a profit. However he will fund the club to the minimum impact on his personal fortune. We won’t ever generate enough to compete so we will continue on the hamster wheel. The takeover hopefully happens but the worry is can these new owners offer us anymore? The jump is massive. It needs serious money thrown at it.

It’s two fold. You need to invest in staff and infrastructure, while also money into transfers. One or the other is nothing. Because as Southampton almost found out, you can have a great foundation but if you have a bad season in players turnover you drop back to the pack immediately. The reverse is the same. Would I complain if we got taken over and a load of money got pumped at it making the jump? Nah I love seeing us win. However it doesn’t make it right. The disparity between wages in the leagues is nuts. The only ones who seem to truly benefit is players, agents and of course the big owners. The loan market is only part of it, but what can be viewed as a small part, probably has a much impact than first appears.

Free-Dor is spot on (for once). The loan system is just an example of how ****ed up the Premier League has become. Sad thing is it wouldn’t be difficult to rectify it but big clubs would never allow it. Loans only allowed for ‘home-grown’ players who are U23 and for no more than 3 seasons. One season only for foreign players U23. Also any loans - loaning club picks up all salary and no loaning fees. This would mean any loans are then done by the owning club to give player game time and develop as it should be.

I don't particularly mind the loan system. As long as a player is playing football at the highest level he can, I don't understand why it's particularly important whose books he's on. The biggest fault in the system, IMHO, is hoovering up your talent and then keeping them in the reserves. That is what deprives young talent of game time.

As for the whole quota on foreign players, the problem isn't the number of foreign players in the English league, it's the number of English players in foreign leagues. I'd rather have a requirement that no player over 19 can play in the Premiership unless they have played the previous season in some other country (or, of course, in the Premiership). Would force all the little Englanders to go out and learn how the rest of the world plays football.
