Ben Hamer has reportedly signed for Huddersfield on a free. We are allegedly close up signing James Madison for £20m. Adrien Silva has topped off a brilliant season by withdrawing from Portugal's squad for their friendly vs Belgium with leg pain - might be out of world cup if it is bad.
Looking at their highlights from last year, Maddison seems the most exciting option, an actual number 10, not dropping too far down the pitch and half the price of grealish.
My concern with what I’ve seen with Maddison is a lack of pace... but I have only seen him a couple of times so might b completely wrong
We are linking with Brazilian winger Felipe Anderson from Lazio - would be a direct replacement for Mahrez...
Is being reported that Lazio rejected £33M from West Ham so we'd need to spend the bulk of the Mahrez transfer fee to get him. We are still linked with Thorgan Hazard who will be less then that. We are also linked with 21yo Turkish striker Umut Bozok who scored 25 goals for Nimes as they got promoted to Legue 1.
for future reference, any bid we have been reported to have made will be double the actual bid Sullivan has put in, see the William Carvalho fall out for reference
It’d be great business if we could somehow get Anderson and either Hazard or Maddison in to fill the Mahrez void. We’d need to pay out the Mahrez cash plus some but it’d be worth it
According the Rob Tanner we are ahead in the race to sign Norwich player James Maddison He wants to sign for us as its close to his family in Coventry
I think this will happen. I do have concerns that he isn’t cut out for the premiership though despite his high regard
As proud says definitely Maddison over Grealish. He’s as likely to be a success as a player from overseas. He clearly has quality and has carried a poor Norwich team. Sure he won’t come as the finished article but players like Vardy were written off by many and look at him now
The difference is that Vardy may of lacked a bit of quality but did have all the raw tools and physical attributes. I worry that Maddison doesn’t have the pace needed to be a top level success in that position but I’ve got to get all my school reports in for Friday so I’m possibly just being a bit boring and pessimistic
Vardy lacked everything but pace and effort when he signed First touch was awful, couldnt finish and other then make runs he didnt do much Maddison looks a top prospect and and we need to add proper depth and quality to our attacking midfield department even if Mahrez stayed as we have over relied on him for years
Think thats it, any initial transfer funds should be spent on rebuilding defense around Maguire and player sales should go towards creative/attacking midfielders.
Im getting worried that the Mahrez situation has gone very quiet. Surely we don't want to stretch this out until the last days of the transfer window again. Man City probably know that they don't haveto rush to get him and they are shopping around. If he was to stay, then surely Maddison and Evans would be our only business this window, which would be a 50m spend. Would love to see Pereira and Mahrez causing trouble on the right wing next season, but thats probably optimistic.
Probably right, we can’t allow ourselves to be shafted like we were on the last day with Drinkwater/Silva and how we would have been in Jan had we not stood firm. Man City know what to pay, Mahrez should know this. The club should advise Man City that this has stretched on since January and put a deadline for any business to be done. If they piss around late on or after this Mahrez is advised exactly of the situation. Probably sounds too sensible
The window shuts before the season starts to start these situations dragging on The longer it goes on the better for us as Man City may turn their attentions elsewhere like they did with Sanchez
