Man.U. 8 - 2 Arsenal He appeared to be under pressure (or at least under scrutiny) before today. Is this the beginning of the end for "The Whinger"? P.S. On the news it said: Manchester 13, London 3!
Merson was having a bit of a rant against Wenger before I turned the TV off- got to be under severe pressure after a result like that, Ramsey and Coquelin were thrown to the wolves today, not to mention the poor lad who got sent off
He won't leave I dont think, not this close to the window it's too late for this season but I don't like they guy and hope he goes soon. They need to invest very soon because teams like Sunderland and stoke and a few others are better in terms of players in my opinion.
Meh He has major players out, and injuries. This was a one off. I wonder if the new stadium is still costing - they do seem to have no spare cash.
He has, one out at Barcelona and one out at Man City. He needs to go shopping, Arsenal have nowhere near a competitive squad.
"Meh" - I don't think you'd be saying that if you were an Arsenal fan! They do have cash, that's why their fans are so infuriated by Wenger's refusal to sign new players. I mean, they've needed defenders badly for God-knows how long, and look who they've signed; 19-year-old Carl Jenkinson from Charlton. He's been sent off twice in his first two games.
I'm not a fan - and I do think they look light this year. Light, rather than crap. Once they gat back those suspended, ill, or injured, they will be better. Come next year, they wont be far off again. Hardly a disaster. Let's face it, Man City are just making up their own rules, and you can't say no to Barca if they ask nicely. Every year in the Champions League - they should quit whinging and relax a bit. I do think they may struggle to get top 4, but that hardly means disaster. You say they have money - I think they are paying for the Emirates and trying to balance the books to avoid a huge loan for it. It took a huge chunk of capital to build it...
I was reading a bit of Gary Neville's autobiography that was in the Mail on Sunday today and he was taking about 'the battle of the buffet' in 2004 at Old Trafford. Arsenal were on that big unbeaten run and Neville said that was mainly due to teams letting them play good football and not tackling them. United challenged them, Arsenal didn't like it and duly lost. This lack of ability to accept and adapt to the physical side of the game was what Neville believed was the cause of their trophyless spell since then. I believe him. If you look at Arsenal now they have some good football players, but were is the experienced ones who can break down the play and stand up to the challenges. United have the likes of Fletcher, Rooney, Vidic and Ferdinand, who do Arsenal have who you can liken to those. They lack a toughness to their side they haven't seen since probably Adams, Dixon, Viera and Winterburn and Wenger's policy of playing foreigners and youngsters hasn't paid off. It's rare to see a manager these days enjoy the length of time he has at one club and has achieved a lot there but i can't see their fans putting up with another trophyless season.
Hate Wenger almost as much as Warnock. The guy is a tool, last week - "Fabregas and Nasri are not leaving", Really? He must of been the only person in the world to believe that, must think Arsenal fans are mugs!! Great manager, brings on kids, really? Bought Fabregas from Barca, Nasri from Marsielle, Vermallen from Ajax, ok, he brought through Cole, Whiltshire will be great, but Walcott has stalled and not set the world alight, neither has Ramsey and both bought at high prices.
Wenger is a first class ****, I hope he gets sacked, He hasn't done anything for English football or English footballers. He's a liar and a ****ing cheat and to top it all off he's French. **** him and **** Arsenal.
He annoys me a bit a but he entertains me with his hilarious interviews, especially when they lose. In fairness for whatever reason Arsenal clearly have no money to spend. It was clear for all to see what they needed to do this summer and they've gone backwards massively. It's not Wenger's fault that Man City are now a bigger club with more money, and that Barcelona appealed to Fabregas. If he had money to spend he would do, he'd be stupid not to. Clearly he doesn't have the money.
Wenger said a while ago that Arsenal would spend "£30m or even £40m if they found the right player/s".
If he genuinely has money to spend on the obvious problems they have, and he doesn't spend it, then he is a truly ridiculous person. Really I know nothing more than the average football fan about Arsenal but I'm sure he has his hands tied financially. Why would he choose not to sign anyone?
If Wenger went now, Vermaelen, Rosicky, Arshavin and Van Persie would all probably follow him out of the exit door. It's the worst thing Arsenal could do. Obviously I'm under no illusions that they're in a right old mess, you can't say a trophyless 6 seasons and the loss of two of your best three players in one transfer window isn't anything short of a crisis. However, 14 consecutive top four finishes speaks for itself in my opinion. You can't possibly contemplate sacking a manager who has delivered that kind of success over a prolonged period. Before this window, he's also sold very well and generally at the right time (Vieira, Pires, Henry, Toure, Adebayor etc.) What would worry me if I was an Arsenal fan now though, is the selling of Fabregas and Nasri. These are two players in the prime of their careers, with still 8/9 good years ahead of them. Wenger has buckled under the pressure and sold, and without any adequate replacements, I wouldn't expect anything more than a top six finish. You only have to look at the 18 man contingent yesterday and see that Arsene needs to buy at least four players before Wednesday night to have a squad capable of challenging for the top four - that obviously isn't going to happen, but they desperately need to invest in the team, otherwise it's going to be a disastrous season. Then people might actually have a case to sack the manager
