But going from one extreme (FS) to the other extreme (MA) isn’t and shouldn’t be and doesn’t have to be what watching us is all about. I don’t want to just exist. I want to have memories. It’s like living until you’re 90 yo like Heed and Jim but not having anything worth remberering. I’d rather go at 89.5 yo and have memories.
We have memories of being beaten by sunderland 7 tines in a row , having **** strips, selling our best players and being relegated.
Further to above point I started reading Newsnow and article on Bob the Frog ( Laurent Robert ) and a quote from him struck home “I was at Newcastle United for four years and when I signed they had one of the top managers in Europe in Sir Bobby Robson and they told me they wanted to be playing in the Champions League. “So it was the best club for me at the time to sign for.“ Imagine who we could sign if we just started saying that last bit again as the rest is true even today. Instead players/agents know we are just here to survive, to exist and don’t aim to win anything. Why should any ambitious player come to NUFC today?
Typically ungrateful, MA has given you so many good memories. Have you already forgotten the TWO glorious Championship Trophies, albeit after two of the ****iest seasons I've ever seen, even in my very long lifetime. Then there was that time, we nearly won the FA Cup, going all the way to the 4th Round. It's easy for the apologists too have a dig at Freddie Shepherd, but, the dissenting voices were few and far between at the time. He wanted to win and we nearly damned did so. Nobody knows what would have happened under him, they can look at their Crystal Balls as much as they want, whereas under the FCB, we have a multitude of facts, which most of us would rather forget.
Theres something i like about you i see myself in you Are you sick of being usually right about everything ?
I think ashley is a parasite personally and he isnt leaving until hes sucked the blood completely out of the club.
Ah we have some old people on this board with their short memories. FS -effectively had control from 1996 Within 6 months KK had left. FS then appointed KD. Who only bought 4 players of note (Speed, Given, Solano and Dabizas) Within 18 months KD was sacked and FS masterminded the appointment of RG. The man who dropped Lee and Shearer. With relegation staring us in the face RG was sacked. Fortunately for FS, The great SBR was available. SBR was sacked (won't apportion all blame to FS) but he then replaced him with GS. Oh my fecking word! GS was sacked as after his second season he was found out to. Again with relegation a possibility GR was tasked with keeping us. He did. GR was then given he role full time but again sacked after a year or so. FS then appointed Fat Shame. Oh my fecking word! In his time with us FS made around £8M FS mocked the fans of this club. FS resigned then re-voted him back on the board. MA took control in around 2007 MA clearly wanted to be popular and eventually sacked Fat Sham and replaced him with KK. KK took the ****e that he was left with and we survived. MA took the piss out of KK MA appointed the poisoned dwarf. By 2009 we were relegated (some will argue thanks to those signings made before MA came to own us) CH was made manager and we were promoted after what most supporters described as one of the best seasons we have had and more fun and interesting in many years. MA stupidly sacked CH. MA appoints AP. AP gets us to 5th (now I think AP should never have been at this club but you cannot fault anyone that season) AP leaves and MA appoints some cronut. MA on the advice of LC appoints SM and spends a whole lot of wedge. MA thankfully relieves him of his duties. MA thankfully on the advice of LC appoints RB. We get relegated. We come straight back up. We finish 10th. In his time MA has lost lots of money from the club He stupidly did his re-naming the ground. The commercial aspect. The football side of it comes down to the managers hired - both hired good and duds. MA got rid of commercialism but took no money out. FS took a lot of money out. MA had SD - FS hired out warehouses to the club. MA re-named the club - FS called the female fans sluts. Only difference - under MA we should be self-sustainable.
Nobody would disagree that Shepherds biggest flaw was he always appointed ****e managers, with the obvious exception
Or Under FS We finished 2, 13, 13, 11, 11, 4, 3, 5, 14, 7 & 13. We were losing FA Cup finalists twice, FA Cup Semi Finalists twice and in Europe 11 seasons. Under MA We finished 12, R, C1, 12, 5, 16, 10, 15, R, C1, 10. Never passed 4th round in the FA Cup and in Europe once. Short memories indeed.
Pretty identical other than that FS managed to get SBR! So why bring that up? Losing finalists - very embarrassing losses both times I believe! Where do you get in Europe for 11 years when FS was only "in charge" for less than 10.
You can go back as long as you want, but, in the last 50 years, John Hall and Freddie Shepherd are the only two owners that have had any ambition for NUFC. If anything they are to blame for giving us hope, prior to that we were just meandering along between Divisions 1 and 2 for donkeys years, with the odd Cup Run every now and then. Bastards..... The FCB, has taken that hope away, going back to the days of just existing.... If anyone is happy with just existing, good for you, but, personally, I would like to try and win something.
