What's with all the Ruddy criticism on the boards? He makes a mistake and is put in the stocks, seems a bit harsh. And while yes it was a penalty, it wasn't a red card. Can I ask, if it had been a defender bringing a Chelsea player down, would we be attacking him in the same way? I may be wrong but it seems to show the fickleness of some fans.
If you read all of the messages in this thread I do not think that anybody has come out and written off Ruddy. The thread was posed as a question and designed to generate discussion which it has regarding both the penalty itself and its ramifications. Ruddy has clearly improved in his short time with us and by goalkeeping standards he is very young but I was interested to know other people's opinions on the issues.
And my post was my input into the discussion. Other threads have questioned Ruddy's place and his fault or not for the goal, which is why I asked about if it had been a defender giving the penalty away. Ruddy has been immense this season, which is why when he was red carded at Chelsea the away supporters sang his name.
Just thinking back a couple of years when we had Mr. Forster in goal for us. I may be wrong, but didn't he also have an early bath for bringing someone down at Tranmere? If I remember rightly, it was a lot earlier bath than Mr Ruddy as well. What is it with our keepers and penalty decisions eh?
Urgh, Tranmere away... I've got cold sweats just thinking about it! I know I'm repeating a well worn cliche in these parts, but doesn't the comparison between Tranmere away, and Chelsea away just bring home once again what's happened to City?
My view is that it was certainly a penalty. Yes, Ramires was looking for it and was going down whether there was contact or not, but unfortunately Ruddy did touch him and as a result it was a pen. However I'm fairly certain it shouldn't have been a red. Ramires was going away from goal, the ball had gone a long way away from him so whether he would have been able to get a shot in is debatable, and even if he had, Pilkington was on the line. Therefore it probably wasn't denying a goal scoring opportunity, so shouldn't have been a straight red. But that's just my opinion. Does anyone know if it's a 1 or 3 game ban? I'm slightly confused as to why Barnett's was only one...
It's been stated today that Ruddy will miss 1 game! Barnett was sent off for a second yellow, which is a 1 match ban, 3 matches for a straight red card for violent conduct! Professional foul (last defender) is also a 1 match ban
I just saw in tonight's win over Everton reserves we had Remi Matthews in goal. Don't know anything about him, but I think he's about 17. I suppose if Lambert really doesn't want to recall Jed Steer we would stick Matthews on the bench?
