Morning all, a lovely start to the day, warm and sunny, but thundery rain forecast for this afternoon. I really cannot think back to another year that I have lived here when the weather has been so unsettled. Everything is growing like mad, but that applies to the plants I don't want as much as to those that are welcome.
Morning all from an overcast and damp rural France. It was supposed to be dry this morning so I had planned around that. Yesterday afternoon we had a violent thunderstorm, with 8 mm of rain in less than an hour. The news showed pictures of commuters with shoes and socks in hand, trousers rolled up to knee level as they walked through the flooded tunnels on the Paris Metro. It will no doubt dry up at some point, and then I will spend time watering things.
Am I the only one with a public holiday today (Corpus Christi) ? That makes 4 public holidays in May. I always find it strange that there can be so much difference within one country on this - those in Berlin, Hamburg, etc. are all working today, yet the predominantly Catholic areas are all sunning themselves in the garden.
We have also had four public holidays in May. For a country that makes a great effort to be secular, it is strange that the church feast days are still recognised.
We've had 3 holidays - but only because one is CI specific. It was also a public holiday in Poland, so anything urgent for our clients that would normally be done in one of our offices there, we had to do ourselves.
Good evening from Gairloch after 5 straight days off wall to wall sunshine [emoji295] and 25+ temperatures. Weather looks to be changing but has been superb Sent from my G3121 using Tapatalk
Morning all, the big news from here today is that no rain is forecast. Must get and restock the cellar as supplies are getting very low. The price for fuel for the cars has rocketed over the past few weeks. Trips to town are reduced so you try to remember all the things that you need. Still it is probably a good job to reduce the driving on many fronts.
While we bask in sun once again the heavy rains in the rest of the country have delivered a new evil. Apparently, the cockroaches are having a massive breeding success. While we usually have the house fumigated once a year we might double up this year. But a great day for us here in Spain. The government of corruption looks like it will fall (vote of no confidense). Even the Basques and Catalan separatists have joined the attack. The Cava is in the fridge to celebrate . Of course, the traditional socialist party will take temporary charge and is also corrupt (if not quite to the same degree) but the election that must come quickly should see them swept away by the two new parties who at least being new cannot be linked to corruption. There is hope although the massive number of unemployed here will not be getting too excited. And the banking sector are nervous as they may be forced to declare realistic values for all the repossessed property and bad debt they hold. But have a good day one and all.
Good morning all from Morocco. Overcast week for the most part last week but four sunny days on the bounce to continue until we leave. More eclectic mix here this year with Spaniards and Germans stronger in numbers than previous years. Unfortunately the stereotypes seem to be in abundance including the boorish British, the ignorant and downright rude French. Doesn't look like we'll be coming back next year... the new management are making a right dogs dinner of what was a fine hotel last year and the year before.
For those who understand Spanish. Queso Laso It continues here, ripping it up. MIcheladas are the only cure.
Lovely morning here, but I have developed a cold that has me coughing through the night. Think I might have kept Mme awake judging by the black looks I keep getting.
Well here another not too hot perfect day. And after yesterday's change of government it is said the new center party is going to have to explain how much cocaine the leadership are sniffing. Well may as well get the mess cleared up in one go. But the big plus is that the new left wing minority coalition government is willing to talk to the Catalans and they acknowledge that Catalunya and Pais Basque are countries within countries. But with less than 25% in the house and a right wing block in the second chamber, I think the sooner we go for an election the better. And I guess the traditional socialists will want to do that before the corruption cases against them receive judgement. More important things, I recently sowed corriander seeds. They were seeds encased in a ball of something. Up until yesterday every one produced two plants. I'm guessing the theory is that one on average will fail to germinate and the ball contains something to help the germination process. But yesterday a single fellow stuck his head up. So one failure out of 16. Never seen that before. Mex what's the queso like there? Here it is not great and I always long for the next visitor to bring me my mature cheddar. Spanish mousetrap is an insult to the cheese makers of the world Well a good day all. ps: OFH don't forget that red medicine really helps
