Always rated him as a player. Probably one of the most intelligent footballers ever - certainly since Sheringham.

Will he bring Derby to the PL?

Probably not. Still think he’ll do well long term.

Always liked fatboy, didn't blame him at all for leaving us, the day we sacked his dad and uncle was the day our future died. Accused of being a benefactor of nepotism that some of our more dick head fans cheered when he broke his leg in 97.

Teddy's coaching career has not been great thus far. Proving that an illustrious playing career doesn't count for too much when going into management.

Mourinho and Wenger weren't even average players. Klopp wasn't anything special. Pochettino was good but nowhere near great. Pep was really good. Zidane was a god.

What makes a top manager? I and most football people have no ****ing idea, whatsoever. I wish him well. God knows, we could do with some half decent young English coaches.

I think you really have to want to do it, and it never seemed to me that Teddy had his heart in it 100%. Whether Frank does we’ll see.

When a top footballer retires, he’s got more money than he’ll ever need. In societal terms he’s still a young man, so it’s difficult for him to retire in the conventional sense. In many cases football has been their whole lives and many can’t pull themselves away. So, that leaves two major choices - tv pundit, and there’s only room for so many of those - or manager - which in turn leads to many taking on something that they haven’t the personality and aren’t intelligent enough to do. They don’t have their hearts in it, are ill equipped to do the job properly and the inevitable happens.

  10. Like you, mate, I rate Frank.

He’s always been complimentary towards Spurs (probably because of Harry), but he’s cut from the same cloth as Kane. Always professional and discreet about the way he conducts himself.

I actually think he will become a great manager, going back to Chavs and being with them for a long time.

The future will be: Frank at Chavs, Gerrard at ‘Pool, and and Giggs at United, all fighting it out in a Sky Sports wet dream.

Not sure about the last bit, but yes, if he really has the desire, I think he’ll turn into a very good manager. He’s highly intelligent, knows the game, and from what I’ve seen on TV, he knows how to put over his ideas clearly and concisely.

He’ll have ups and downs. Big wins, dispiriting defeats, if he’s got the desire and is determined to succeed, he’ll be one to watch.

Saw the Frank Lampard thread and thought he had died, couldn't think of any other reason why some fooking daft kunt would create a thread about him unless someone was going to shoot him in the bollocks.

Always begrudgingly enjoyed watching Lampard. One of the very elite attacking mids of his generation.

His experience and recent knowledge of the game should stand him in good stead.

The country could do with some more good, young, English managers. It’ll hopefully eradicate the dross like Pardew and co constantly getting jobs.

Wouldn't be happy as a Derby fan though going from Rowett to a rookie.

Wouldn’t be happy being married to my own sister but that’s the sad reality for Derby fans.

Can’t disagree that it’s a big risk, mate. But Derby obviously want PL football - he failed to produce it, and so they’ve taken a leap,in the dark.

Time will tell if it was the right leap.

It should be an easier league next season for the teams going for promotion (not us). None of the teams coming down are to be feared and Villa won’t be as strong. Good chance for a club like Derby who have a few quid and an ok team.
