Ancelotti won once (no la ligas) in 2 years. Rafa Benitez wasn't afforded the opportunity. Jose Mourinho didnt win any.

Even Pep with arguably the greatest team could only do 2 in 3 (certainly the most dominant midfield ever).

Zidane did it 3 consecutive seasons

La Liga is the best league in the world and there are 3 world class teams that are capable of winning it.

Zidane won 1 out of 2 (first half season they had no chance before he took over).

The PL is the most hostile league in the world and with respect to Spurs :

    - there are 3 teams that can on paper bankroll themselves to victory
    - 2 other teams with far greater revenues

and you contend that a manager who has had an embarrassment of
riches in his squad for years, can come to Spurs and do as well / better
on the current resources as the current manager has ??

If so, then we will have to agree to disagree.

Good time for Poch to walk into Levy's office and say, 'Can we talk about Isco, Modric and Bale?'

The other way to look at it is he left Madrid with positive net spend. He had to indulge in glorifying Madrid's megalomaniacs to ensure there was minimal disruption to their on-field success, and he had an ageing squad which was widely regarded as not being anywhere near as strong as Madrid sides of the past. Ronaldo is 33, Modric is 32, Ramos is 32, Benzema is 31, Marcelo is 30 - the nucleus of their team isn't getting any younger. They had no substantial cover in defence or attack, yet he still managed to win the Champions League on 3 occasions.

Out of all the managers Madrid have had over the past decade, Zidane was the only one to leave with any form of dignity and self-preservation of his reputation. Pellegrini, Ancelotti and Benitez could not do this. Hell, even Schuster, Capello and Mourinho couldn't, despite winning league titles.

I'm not saying he would be a thriving success at Spurs if he were ever appointed manager, but can we at least give him more respect for what he's achieved? Even with the resources Madrid have, the scrutiny and expectations you are under from your first day cannot be easy to manage.

Anyone that genuinely believes he underachieved or his spell was underwhelming at Madrid is living in cuckoo land. He made history and this will rightfully go down as one of the most successful periods in Madrid's history.

Three consecutive CL wins - that's my kind of underachieving.

  8. ‘The Tottenham chief insisted at the Barcelona launch of his book, Brave New World, that he remains happy at Spurs, insisting: "I’m committed to Spurs and still have a long contract with them I just signed. I’m happy where I am. I understand the rumours, but that is life. I’m so happy with my new contract. What will happen tomorrow, don’t know. But football is football and ends up putting everyone in their place. The most important thing is to enjoy every single day. Let’s enjoy life and not worry about what will happen tomorrow.

So expect the next headlines to be: ‘Poch to decide on his future with Real Madrid TOMORROW!! <laugh>

I posted somewhere on this board that I was down in London a few weeks back and had driven past your ground. I said it looked like it might not be ready for the start of the season. Someone posted pics saying it would. I gather it might not be now and you might have to use Wembley.

Every couple of years a job is likely to come up at RM, United, Citeh, Munich, PSG or Juve. I think that MP might be interested in any one of those at the right time. He's said he wouldn't be interested in Barcelona or Arsenal and Chelsea's probably out too but there are 5 top jobs other than Madrid. He wouldn't have to go there first to have managed them and if they're the best, maybe not going there too soon would be the smartest move?

Frankly, I'm not certain that he's fully ready for it yet and a few more years of experience in the CL and winning something would make him a more likely success at any of those clubs when he does move on from Spurs. Right now, learning at spurs suits his career development.

Mauricio Pochettino 'speaks' to Sky Sports....

Pochettino: At Spurs we've achieved the first objective of returning to the CL. We had to close the gap to the top. But also we've created an atmosphere of togetherness which is fundamental to this exciting project

I am so happy at spurs. In football you never know what can happen in the future. I am so proud The the club showed me the trust they did with the new contract. Most important to enjoy today

Sky sports reporter: Are you ready for a challenge like Madrid?
Pochettino: Right now I am ready for lunch. I'm looking forward to going back to London

Sky: Surely no one says no to Madrid. It's impossible isn't it?
Pochettino: For you maybe but you are not me.

    Hacks, he ****ing hates them.

Personally I think Poch has done a brilliant job developing a bunch of young players at Spurs and Zidane has done exceptionally well with some of the best players in the world at Real Madrid.

It's not in the least bit obvious that means that either would be a success in the opposite roles.

yeah, the RM job will come up in a couple of years, even maybe next year. What i meant was that even if Poch agreed to stay 1 more year, it's likely (if he wanted real) that he wouldn't get the job next year.

All that said and done i don't think that Real job is that attractive if you think about it objectively. The current squad might have 1 more year in them but i can see things going south as their depth isn't really all that and the key players are aging and will need a rebuild job sooner than later.

Yeah, the next in the chair is going to have that 'Moyes Thing' hanging over their head.

Take over from a club legend who delivered 3 consecutive CL wins? Errrr.........I'll get back to you.

Yeah, if you are Moh from ArsenalFanTV.

"He had to indulge in glorifying Madrid's megalomaniacs to ensure there was minimal disruption to their on-field success,

    1. All those ageing useless players who should have been
pensioned off years ago (truly shocking) . :(

    2. Spurs will be only too willing to take Modric off their hands
as a kindness, and I'm sure Madrid will reciprocate in kind in
asking for the low fee commensurate with a player one step
    from the knackers yard.

"They had no substantial cover in defence or attack, yet he still managed to win the Champions League on 3 occasions."

Yeah, it must be a pants-soiling experience as manager,
knowing that if CR7 gets injured all you have on the bench
is an utter oxygen thief like Bale. I guess that means Zidane
would be ready for a similar situation at Spurs
    ( ^CR7 and Bale ^Eriksen and Sissoko) .

I love this: I mean what sort of a question is it from someone who gets paid as a journo.

Sky: Surely no one says no to Madrid. It's impossible isn't it?
Pochettino: For you maybe but you are not me.

If you have a car with a top speed of 200mph and the opposition has cars that can do 170mph you might expect to win and if you do I will not bow down in homage.
People are so impressed with shiny bits, they remind me of magpies. Flying around nicking everything they can and then expecting a round of applause from the victims.

I don't buy this worship of the privileged, it's like knighthoods, hood being the important part. You have made millions by robbing the vulnerable so here is a knighthood.

Keeps them in the tent I suppose.
