Maybe, however changeover in manager and impatience for results is arguably worse in the Championship as everyone almost expects to be competing for promotion these days.

Bleak close season has now hit, so anyone looking for a little smile injection should check out Lambert V Le Tiss. (many of you will have already I expect)

I left that as unsaid. My point exactly. We would have been equally as bad.

For us, difficult though that defeat was, it was a turning point. The club had gambled on promotion and lost with the subsequent financial meltdown that led to the ignominy of 2009. That we then became one of the luckiest football clubs in the world when Cortese saw the investment potential can be directly linked to that night at Pride Park.

In our history there have been other times when we've been pipped at the post where the victors have not gone on to greater things. Coventry gained promotion before us in '65; Bolton finished as champions in '78 and more recently Reading forced us to accept the runners up spot in 2013. There is the odd exception. When we did finally win promotion in '66 it was as runners up to Manchester City who, on recent evidence, seem to have a chance of becoming a not bad team.

Good post Lambo, I agree 100%. If we had gone back up in 2007 the old guard would still have been in charge and our financial ruin would probably not have been averted for long.

Oh and by the way, I seem to remember Man City being a bit of a yo-yo club during the 80’s and probably pipped Saints to the title of luckiest football club when (a) they were given the City of Manchester Stadium, and then (b) they were bought by Sheikh Mansour.

George Weah’s son, Tim, has scored on his debut for the US.... why haven’t we had a call?

Has George lost our number? :)

Welcome Cardiff & Fulham to the EPL pages of NOT606.
Unlike Wolves, they bring some much needed traffic.

    It is indeed.

Looking forward to it - looks like it is a sellout 80,000 for a normal league game!

I watched the 1-1 away to New England tonight on Fox Sports and ATL were all over them...then conceded I the last 3 mins. Sound familiar?

ATL use a high press though - very MP1 like, so hopefully be a good game!

I see Derby have appointed someone who has never managed a football club before just because they're an ex-footballer (and big name to boot). If Portsmouth ever do that I'll be annoyed... Oh wait, we did and almost got relegated. <doh>

I like Frank and think its a decent appointment for both him and Derby, I also like that Jody Morris is going in as his number 2, think they could be a good team.

Maybe, heaven forbid, he actually gave the best interview out of the lot? At least he was prepared to drop down a level (unlike Giggs)

Yeah lets just applaud clubs keep employing the same old names. The other 2 in the frame were Moyes and McCarthy apparently. Any new appointment is a risk, I like teams who try to go a new direction.

Jody Morris is very highly rated as a coach as well, so will be interesting to see how they do. I'd imagine a few Chelsea loanees will end up there now
