With JT leaving Villa they might become interested again in Flint. Might up the asking price, they have a recent record of buying our better players.
Given their spending of the last couple seasons and the spectre of ffp, I don't see AV splashing the cash this summer.
Flint has his strengths no doubt but flaws too and whilst it would be a blow to lose him it wouldn't necessarily be as damaging as some might think, especially with a whole bunch of money in the bank & a prospect like Vyner on our books. In a way we're in a no lose situation.
Fell out with GJ with his continual selection of LJ. However you have to admire him (and Pete) for unearthing massive talent like Marvin and Basso for next to nothing. Hell, just compare them with the 30 players signed by LJ and Ashton. I know it's a different time but can only wonder if GJ had anywhere near the financial backing enjoyed by LJ where BCFC would be now. LJ and Ashton with their numerous signings have behaved like kids in a sweet shop.
Basso was a really good find, the problem was he started to belive his own hype and ultimatley did not progress anywhere after he left us. Marv was not a bad player, over hyped by many on here, mainly because he played alongside LJ. I always thought his square ball passes were a touch negative and again he did nothing after leaving us.
Is there a list of signings somewhere? Might be interesting to go through and give rating, plus get an idea of success rate. Not convinced it's truly awful though (forgive if some of these are SC era signings), but I'd say the following have been good: Famara Diedhiou Josh Brownhill Callum O'Dowda Jamie Paterson Nathan Baker (best mention Tammy Abraham loan too) ...And these arguably good/jury still out Eros Pisano Hordor Magnusson Milan Djuric Bailey Wright Matty Taylor Every transfer's a gamble - even Sir Alex Ferguson and his scouting team didn't always get it right... https://www.express.co.uk/sport/foo...son-Manchester-United-signings-sportgalleries
I'll update my CV - I have a Football Manager save where my Bristol City side thrashed Real in the knockout stages of the Champions League!
Supcon 'Basso was a really good find' Basso was as good a keeper that's played for City in the last 50 years and a darn sight better than most. 'the problem was he started to belive his own hype' - or fell out with GJ - fatal. 'ultimatley did not progress anywhere after he left us' - some keepers can go on but his age 35 was against him. Think you're being very unfair to a fantastic keeper of BCFC. 'Marv was not a bad player' ??? Only one better - Gowie. NickH 'Famara Diedhiou Josh Brownhill Callum O'Dowda Jamie Paterson Nathan Baker (best mention Tammy Abraham loan too)' I agree. 'Eros Pisano' Dodgy signing - Injured Hordor Magnusson - Plays half the time. Milan Djuric - Dodgy signing -Injured. Bailey Wright - TBF - Out of position at Rb but signed to replace Flint, he'll never be a good Championship CH and can't wipe Flint's boots. Matty Taylor' - Like you said jury still out. NickH - and the other 20 ? Reuters Real Madrid - like Swansea, West Brom and Southampton have expressed an interest in LJ. According to Ashton !
If I remember correctly, we didn't ditch Basso, we offered him a contract but he refused because he wanted to play in the Premiership, so he got frozen out.
Like so many before him Adriano's opinion of himself never quite reached the heights he expected. Player power is all very good but only if used in a situation that's beneficial to both parties and some of our past players have fallen in to the trap believing they need greener grass. A fool and his dreams can soon be parted.
Marvin Elliot had a head the shape of 50p coin. No ****er had an idea which angle the ball was going off. Up yours Redprint it’s my opinion so big fat juicy bollocks to what you say.
Come on Nick you should know better than that by now, facts and truth won’t stop Redprintt bashing the Johnson’s!!
'Marv was not a bad player' - says everything about you. Not a clue. And NickH - the other 20 - any thoughts ?
