Snail disaster. I opened my main aquarium lid this morning to feed critters and fertilise the plants and saw this big glob of white at the top. Really weird looking. It was one of my big purple apple snails... A couple of the males had mated with her recently and I have noticed in the evening her coming to the top of the tank (probably looking for a place to lay eggs above water line) She must have fallen onto a rock below and then the next time she climbed out to try and lay eggs her cracked shell fell off her once she went above the water line. Quite tragic. I had to euthenise her. A snail sans shell doesn't live long because the internal organs require the shell for structural support. Was quite depressing.
Thats a shame. Question - how do you euthanise a snail? Guessing it’s not how we used to when we were younger and pour salt onto it
Same way I euthenise fish. Put them in really cold water and then put them in the freezer. They lose feeling and essentially go to sleep in the cold. There's a better way using clove oil but I don't have any. Clove oil pretty much kills them instantly with little pain.

Don't really know where to start with this, Milk. I know Scouse and Latchford snails are very fast and very, VERY hard. They also don't shag, and prefer Carling
Shell wasnt just broken it was detached unfortunately. They have a muscle that attaches the body to the shell. Once that muscle tears it can't reattach to shell.
Because I put snail in the freezer to euthenise? I also have frozen blood worms and brine shrimp in my freezer at any given time (food for fish/frogs). The Mrs. tolerates alot. I draw the line at putting live california black worms in the fridge. I know she would gets annoyed with that. I used to culture live Grindal worms in the living room though.
