I was up there for a funeral a few months ago and the Grindon Mill looked like it was long gone. Can't be talking about the Mill mate.
No believe it or not the Mill is now a 24hr gym. I live about a 100yds from it. When it was a pub I visited regular. It changed to a gym about 5 years ago and I have managed to walk past it every day to visit the next pub up the road. Alternatively I go the opposite way up the street, a good half mile walk incidentally, to what is now called The Broadway previously the Wavendon aka Crematorium Arms as everybody goes there after a funeral. Back to the story the club is on the edge of the estate. Was a good club in its time but like most others its had its heyday and is on a rapid downward spiral. I am led to believe it will probably become a boxing club soon.
I saw it had become a gym. Was there a hairdressers there a few years ago? My first in-laws lived in Nookside Court, up the cul-de-sac, a long long time ago. Last time I was in the Wavendon was when my first father law died, about 2 or 3 years ago. As you say, the Crem's just over the road. The greatest man I've ever known. Was divorced from his daughter 29 years ago but was still absolutely gutted at his funeral.
Too much politics fir not enough money in bands sadly. I’d love being back in one but always end up having problems with them!! Although, the way my day job is going, I may need less money from it so a band could be on the horizon!! Nice seeing you again mate.
You're an excellent duo mate. could have found your musical kindred spirit. Some of your tunes were just begging for a beat though. You to mate. Didn't see it all, only had a couple in there, But I listened to most from just outside the fire exit cause we were stuck behind the arch and acoustics aren't the best but acoustics in the ally(or yard as it's known) is always brilliant.
Cheers mate. I’ve listened to a few bands out there before and the acoustics are great. We do gigs with backing tracks as well so have a beat added t9 the songs. Just the Quaker won’t have backing at all
There's lots of venues in darlo mate at the moment. Try the hole in the wall. Keep showing your face in the area and doing your gigs and someone will want you come festival time, we have rhythm and blues festivals and all kinds. The Slaters Arms twice this year have done a big tent in their car park, you two are better than anything I've herd them put on yet.
