Do you mean May 3rd 1980 ? Or are you citing the match when FC fans who were invited in for free by Don Robinson ( v Brentford ?) after there game kicked off early, did turn up and all congregated together in the North Stand and supported the opposition ?

Yes, good idea. People shouldn't post on such a cringe making thread about congratulating a rugby club on a football forum in the first place.

Brentford game. It was FC who asked their fans to attend, their chairman at the time was an OK bloke and did it as a thankyou as Harold Needler had helped out both of the rugby clubs some years earlier, including letting them use BP for a derby game when they were struggling financially. That game remains the highest crowd for a Hull v Rovers game in Hull, 28,000.

I know City helped both RL clubs many times with the use of Boothferry Park and so on but I'm sure the game you refer too was one of Dob Robinsons publicity stunts. He offered FC fans free admission if they came wearing their colours which they would have had with them for an earlier televised kick off at the boulevard.
The use of BP for rugby league backfired dramatically once when in an attempt to get an International played during a cold snap when the pitch was frozen someone heavily salted the playing surface and poured tons of sand on it to get he game on, it worked but it ruined the playing surface for several months until the club could get the pitch re-laid.

Needler died in 1975, but the record attendance game played at Boothferry Park was in 1953.

So why mention when he died? Which is irrelevant as the Hull FC Chairman, Waudby, did it as a thank you for help in the past.

It was said by Waudby, the FC Chairman and a decent bloke.
It can't have been anything to do with Don Robinson as he didn't take over until 1982.

Don Robinson was at Hull City in 1980, maybe not as chairman then but he was at the club. But just been speaking to an ex-City player who was there at the time and he said The Don didn't come until 1982. So I stand corrected.

Phil's edited his post, it originally said Needler died in 1978.

Nice chap was Roy Waudby, I knew his 2 brothers Harry & Colin well as I worked with them and played football with one of them, Harry was a good player, played for Kingburn.

2 F.C players sinbinned 10 minutes each , within 2 minutes of each other. Disgraceful Refereeing.

Without doubt some of the most one sided referring I've ever seen in sport.

Harry Waudby was a prolific goalscorer. If I recall, he wasn't very tall, yet scored many a goal with his head. I used to watch Kingburn regularly as their home ground was a minute walk away. Good team in those days. Do they still exist as a club ?
