Dani Ric takes pole at Monaco with a barnstormer of a lap. Should have been a 1-2 for RBR but Verstappen’s car not repaired in time, so he starts last.
Chris Froome will tomorrow become the first ever British cyclist to win the Giro d’Italia after finishing the penultimate stage just ahead of Tom Dumoulin. Froome shattered the field yesterday, breaking on his own from 50 km out and finishing 3 minutes ahead of Dumoulin, which put him in the maglio rosa with a 40 second lead. Dumoulin, the defending champion, was until yesterday in the lead, with Froome back in 4th place. Froome will simultaneously hold the titles of all 3 Grand Tours, having won last year’s Tour de France and Vuelta á España.
What an incredible drive by Daniel Ricciardo! Led from start to finish, but for the last 50-odd laps he was without ERS. Unbelievable.
What an earth has happened to Jo Konta? She can barely win two points in a row and her serve, which used to be the strongest part of her arsenal, has virtually disappeared... On a side note, still can't stand Inverdale.
Really pleased for Riccardo. How he kept out in front for the whole race with that engine problem is amazing. Even on those narrow streets I thought he was outstanding. Biggest smile in sport just got bigger.
Would the drivers moaning about how Dull / Boring the race was , moaned if they had won ? ? I doubt they would have !
started watching about halfway. Top 5 within seconds of each other. Race finished, top 5 within seconds of each other. What happened in-between? Nothing. Monaco should be scrapped but it won't.
Its not my favorite track by any stretch, but come on, it has lots of other qualities. The build up is amazing, the pratice laps are very enjoyable, the history, boy it has history! The atmosphere, such an amazing place, its blood runs mobile one.. Just because its not an overtake fest does not render it useless. Its like it the EPL when a game finishes 0-0 and someone who didn't watch it goes 'Knew it would be dull.....' On lots of occasions I've really enjoyed some close battles, where two managers set there teams up for a cagey affair, the chess on grass type, see who will blink first, and have been on the edge of my seat from the word go. Sport isn't always about the fire works, sometimes you have to appreciate the art for what it is.
“Just because its not an overtake fest does not render it useless.” If it was a parade of fast cars, you wanted to watch, then I would agree, but it is a race. It is supposed to be a contest. If you can’t pass on the track you may as well let them settle down into position, then end it after the first lap. If they really wanted to make it interesting, then all drivers would be in the same type of car and all tracks would have a minimum of three passing points so that the best drivers can actually race on the same level.
Verstappen was overtaking for fun in the first half of the race so obviously it’s possible. I don’t watch Formula One very often but always try and catch Monaco, and I didn’t think it particularly dull. The drama of Ricciardo hanging on with only half a power unit was compelling.
You can over take there. I think what we witnessed at the weekend was in part due to the Redbulls shenanigans in the last couple of races and teams asking the drivers to bring the cars home rather than risk the hollywood stuff we've been seeing thus far. I enjoyed it, just not as much as the previous five Races.
Well yes he had a fast car, they didn't. The other fast cars were so close no-one would change their tyres or they'd lose 6 positions so they just drifted round getting slower and slower
Rejoice: whatever qualms we have about our team leadership, at least they haven't gotten caught operating a bunch of burner Twitter accounts to take shots at the team's players, former general manager, and others. https://www.theringer.com/nba/2018/...-twitter-joel-embiid-anonymous-markelle-fultz
How daring is Serena Williiams? Not sure her catsuit would go down well at Wimbledon unless it was all white. Would love to see her get to 25 slams and then call it a day. Kvitova, though, is the girl to win at Roland Garros if she can keep her cool. https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/44294118 (Serena in her catsuit)
