@astro @Jimmy Squarefoot was this either of you two? It went well like..... https://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/index.php?topic=340145.msg16059201#msg16059201
I haven't read all of this so apologies if I'm going over old ground. There are two ways to look at this. Karius as a human being, and as a player for LFC. I feel really sorry for him as an individual, and I wish him well and hope this doesn't completely destroy his career. Obviously he didn't mean to screw up and he was genuinely distraught. As our player, I've said all along I don't think he's good enough. He showed some improvement and I was hoping to be proven wrong, but even then I said that the real test would come when he made a bad mistake and we see how he responds to that. He's made them at the worst possible time. Biggest club stage in the world, and now he has a couple of months to mull over it. He might show some real mettle and move on from it, but I don't think we can take that risk - we have to get someone significantly better.
Klopp doesn't seem to be the type to rush a decision. In his first transfer window with us, the only signing he made was Caulker on loan. He was taking his time to assess the squad. He will have been monitoring Karius for a while and imo, there is no way he was thinking of keeping Karius but then changed his mind on Saturday. Klopp accepts that players make mistakes and have bad games.
I agree with all of the above. I still think mingolet might go and klopp might be changing his mind on getting a replacement and what type.
Unfortunately, we still have a few players who either make too many mistakes or are afraid to take any risks at all. We won’t win anything until they’re gone.
Can I answer? frustrating as hell and gave the ball away stupidly especially in his own half. in hindsight it was more about him taking risks to be creative and he added that spark that imo we lost totally when he left. I wonder if we had kept him on the left rather than put him as make weight in Torres deal would we have got closer in 09.
STFU, I was asking Jimmy I was asking because he moans about mistakes AND not taking risks but the two go hand-in-hand. I firmly believe we wouldn't have won the CL in 2005 if Garcia hasn't been in the side. But agree he was also frustrating. I do realise he may mean defensive mistakes and risks when attacking
I agree with you. Jimmy can answer for himself there I just wanted to contribute on it as I get your point.
At the end of the day, what choice did he have but to go with Karius? It was either him, Mignolet or Ward.
I agree with those who've said, on a personal level, heart goes out to Karius. On a professional level, his mistakes were monumental. If I could make a huge, sweeping, stereotypical remark - he's German, they're not known for giving up, they have arrogance in bucket loads. So, he may get over this very quickly, he may not. I think his future depends not on how long it takes him but on whether Klopp thinks this is the end of Karius' career with us. Respect to Karius for going over to the fans after the game to apologise and not disappearing down the tunnel. That took maturity.
