Same for De Gea which want so long ago.

As I said, Karius isn't good enough and needs replacing but we knew that before this weekend.

That’s the difference between an ok manager and a top class/elite one. Even more so for football ones. To recognise the potential of a top class player and letting go of those who won’t make it at a very early stage. Even the very top managers make mistakes of letting some very good players go but most would let a player go if he lost a major final. Very rarely can we say a player was key to a defeat. In this case absolutely true.

I think most fans here have no problem with him as a decent guy. Most like me feel sorry for him. The problem is that he has got an error in him in most big matches. We definitely need a top class GK not an average one. In big matches, if our defenders make a mistake we need a GK that can save them. Pep got searching for a new GK after Cabballero and Bravo made some mistakes and got a more reliable one. This will be the test of Klopp’s managerial ability. Can he sack Karius?

There's "giving players a chance" and then there's not being able to recognise a player is never going to be good enough for a club like LFC. I think the latter is a question mark over Klopp tbh.

Karius is a backup keeper at best, nothing more.

Difference is, in the workplace you can replace the departing staff member petty quickly. You can't do that in football, certainly not as many as we needed to change when Klopp arrived.

Before Klopp was appointed, we had a front line of Benteke, Balotelli and Lambert <laugh>

Tbh..... the scouts picked the lad out and klopp bought him.

I will be totally honest that I like to get in early and watch warm ups and frankly..... when the lad first came he was a joke in warm up as he wasn't playing and didn't take it too serious.

Since klopp brought him in he has been all business this time so I think he has worked very hard for the chance and tries his best.

You can see what he has improved on but you can see the flaws still.

I just don't know how you can teach awareness to a lad whos already played plenty of football. I think we have seen risky passes and throws in the past but the benzema mistake is the worst gaff in the history of goalkeeping at a high level. It will be on skys football funiest moment with scummy manc commentry forever.

I can't see how you come back and improve from there tbh.

I totally agree ... that first was a head **** of the highest order.

I'm a romantic. . Part of me would love him to grow and make that a side note ... Part of me would like that with us... Part of me doesn't want to take that chance lol

He was dodgy day one, he's improved his effort and that's about the best he can do. If he drops his effort levels like say Joe Hart he will be dodgy as ****.

There's no way that lad is ever going to be getting redemption in another final... just not going to happen.

Keepers are funny things though... we could spend big money and be saying in a year ...wtf ...

It's a tough position for an almost team.

Ah yeah you have a lot of expectation but there are not too many who will move here.

It's a position that's all about mentality and awareness.

Every Keeper has cocked up at some time or other. Your man cocked up on probably the biggest stage he could pick which is always going to highlight it to the World. He played like Mr Bean as I said on your match day thread but that isn't to say I didn't feel for the guy. Will he come back from it? The $64m dollar question isn't it. It will take a big man to come back from that but you never know. He was at least big enough to put both hands up and appologise.

As for the death threat stuff well who the feck are these keyboard warriors? It's the times we live in unfortunately where people can make these stupid posts in places from the comfort of their own dark attic. In the good old days people weren't able to. Not saying they wouldn't have in some cases if they could but they couldn't. Nobody bothered to sit down and write a letter before the internet was invented. They would have to find a pen and paper, write the thing and then go to the post office and buy a stamp and physically post it. By then their pea brains would have given up on it. I wonder how many would say the same things in person to the butt of their angst. Very few probably. It's the one thing that gives the argument for those not committed for scrapping or uninventing the internet. If this player did something drastic to himself because of the abuse sadly these people wouldn't even recognise that they had done anything to encourage it. It's too easy to be abusive on these mediums.

We're non going to replace both Karius and.Mignolet in one summer, no matter how many fans wish we would.

So who goes.. Klopp seems to prefer Karius, Karius is younger and can still be moulded. I also guarentee he won't make.THAT mistake again.

Logically that means Karius stays at the club. He might become backup if we get a better keeper. Or we might be stuck with him if Klopp doesn't get a new keeper. Either way he's going to be a Liverpool player for a while.

The first mistake is so ridiculously naive as to be rare amongst professional goal keepers. So safe to say he’ll probably never do anything like that again. And most strikers would not have an opportunity like that in their careers like benzema. As to the second goal, it was a basic mistake. One that a top goal keeper wouldn’t make but one we would see every week in all the lower leagues. More training would rectify this as he is still young.

But what he hasn’t got is that inbuilt ability that cannot be taught. The Buffon or Neuers of this world at their peak dominated their penalty areas and kept clean sheets unless it was a great shot. And Karius does not have the potential to reach these heights even if he managed to put this nightmare match behind him. At his best Karius is a championship level player. No disrespect to goal keepers of those clubs. With a top goal keeper like Courtois or DeGea (despite astro’s assertions in some previous posts that Karius is as good as them?) we would have league runners up place sewn up.

I would keep Mignolet as he is older. Karius would fetch more transfer money as he is younger and there may still be some managers out there who think they can see potential in him.
