As expected I'm afraid. Very loose, attacking shot by Buttler.
We are poor as a Test side.

Truly awful from England. 27 minutes, 25 deliveries, 4 wickets on a flat pitch.
    We are truly terrible.

Hope they didn’t charge the spectators full price to come in today otherwise would’ve demanded a refund!

Thought you'd be back for some 'I told you so's', Col. That's an unfair dig at Buttler in my opinion.

It's not a dig or anything else.
He played an airy shot, vaguely towards mid-on, to a straight delivery in the 2nd over of the day.
An hour into the day and he would probably have made the shot, but he doesn't have test match technique and mental approach.

Well that was a productive Sunday morning, I got loads of chores done and now it's time to put my feet up and watch some test cricket.

He showed yesterday, coming in at 104-5, that he does have both the technique and the mental approach, but you passed judgment on him without even having seen him play. Given that he'd been told to just 'play his own game', he could have been forgiven for having a bash and riding his luck yesterday, but he didn't. He played responsibly and helped the debutant Bess find his feet.- a proper disciplined test innings. The way he got out today wouldn't have happened yesterday because he was taking a step down the pitch against the quicks to take LBW out of the equation, but then most dismissals are down to a momentary lapse in technique or judgment. I think it's unfair to write him off as you have.

    Ffs strolls.
    What is it with You?
I'm not writing him off and I've already said that I really enjoy watching him bat.
I happen to think that, like many of the current crop of English players he's better suited to limited overs cricket.
Not sure how you can defend our test team with their current record.
Once in a while, our attack minded players with all come off at once and we'll look good.
I hope they all prove me wrong and that we win lots of tests this summer and beyond.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan: "This England Test team is not a very good team, and they should be. They are playing 50-60% under their potential.

"That has been happening for too long. Last year they lost to the worst West Indies team to ever tour this country.

"It's not a surprise that they have lost to Pakistan - they've been losing for a while. But they are not just losing games - they are getting hammered."

I am not defending the team, who performed very poorly, I'm just defending Buttler. I would say 'he doesn't have test match technique and mental approach' is writing him off.

    Oh and theres
Unless he can change from attacking MOST of the time then like many others he may not be successful in test cricket imo.

Test cricket is dying....and the England team are doing everything they can to drive as many nails in the coffin.
Agree with Col, Buttler is a superb limited overs player (as proved in the IPL), but not a test player.

But your dismissal of his technique and temperament was based on your pre-conceived idea of how he plays. His innings yesterday - which you admitted you didn't see - gave the lie to the notion that he's just a dasher. Maybe he won't be able to sustain it in tests, but give him a chance.

Did you see Buttler's innings yesterday?

Bits of it (but must confess hardly any) it was my twins birthday party so was busy most of the day.
Still stick to my opinion....Buttler is more suited to limited overs cricket.
And good for him..it’s the future.

I know how he plays. I'v seen him play countless times before in all formats.
You make it sound like I've never seen him pick up a bat!
Anyway, as in mist things let's just agree to differ.

How did he play yesterday? You didn't see, and nor did Stainesy, but you're both perfectly sure that you know. Can you not accept that your blind pre-conceptions might have been proved wrong?

I'm not saying that he can definitely make it at test level, but what I saw yesterday makes me think that he possibly can. Open your mind, Col.

Is no one allowed an opinion that differs from yours, Stroller ?
Do I have to see every innings of a player to form my opinion ?
I will say again ...... MY OPINION (if I’m allowed to have one), is that Buttler is a far superior 20/20 player than he is a test player.
He is a big hitter that is far more suited to that kind of game.

    Is that ok ?
