So many times I was convinced we were down; after West Ham, after Chelsea, after drawing with Everton... To pick the players up every time, and get them believing again, was a remarkable achievement on Hughes' part imo. I get that people aren't convinced by his tactical nous, approach to the game, previous record in the transfer market etc; but to me all those things are secondary in importance to leadership qualities, and he has those. Besides, he's no mug. He has played the game at the highest (club) level.
More a case of we'll never know....just as I think we'd have done better to have kept Puel. The team weren't enamoured of him but they would know they had to lump it if he had the board's support...and he was a better manager than MP2 (who was out of his depth). Mark Hughes just has more experience in the EPL than either Puel or MP2...been there, done it.
Yes I’ve heard MH ran quite a loose ship at Stoke, which certainly was instrumental in his departure. Somewhat surprising but widely reported (in Stoke). Maybe he’d enough of that regime? Not sure what that means for us but I’m 100% behind him.
They're better together, I know that much. Don't mind Oasis, and I think we can now say they've stood the test of time. All the (self created) Beatles comparisons are hilarious though; the Beatles reinvented themselves every time they went in the studio. Oasis had one sound and kept repeating it - basically Status Quo with attitude (I don't mind Quo either)
Liam has made a whole career out of mimicking Lennon's singing on Rain...badly. Noel, at least has a bit of talent, but nowhere near as much as he thinks he has, he is also a well known plagiarist (not just The Beatles stuff). Apologies for straying off topic, I shall now return to the sanctuary of the music thread...
Alan Ball won a World Cup Kevin Keegan was twice European Footballer of the Year I’ve just finished reading a Bally biography and every club he was at as a manager, he was considered by the player as hugely inspiring and got them at it early. It never lasted though.
Too true - I loved going to the Liberty and even that Tuesday evening a few weeks ago, walking round the stadium to reach my friend's car, I felt totally safe. I'm probably not going to go to Cardiff v Saints next season, even if it's a Saturday kick-off as I'm not sure that I'd feel safe on my own.
I think Mark Hughes is an excellent First Team coach. I just don’t think you want him running any part of a football club, like transfers etc I believe we have a very well club just let down by our previous manger. If we can give Mark Hughes the right players, I believe he can improve on our previous achievements!
Presumably we will have interviews and pictures of the signing on Tuesday....I'm assuming that Mark is still on holiday. The announcement pictures and quotes were obviously pre-prepared and done in absentia.
