Surprised nobody as mentioned this. Simon Yates was in control for 18 stages then Chris Froome totally blitzed stage 19. He was outstanding. Well done Chris .
Reckon with his and cycling’s high profile re drugs that he’s the cleanest athlete around at the moment, can’t comment on the past as don’t have the facts. He is extremely fit and has more stamina than his rivals, end of.
Yates really has blown it in a big way, was 38 minutes down on the stage whereby Froome took the lead, he is now miles behind from being the front runner for so long. Great credit to Froome, who kept in there waiting for him to crack and he did big style.
Unbelievable performance from Chris Froome. Great to see the principle of innocent until proven guilty is still going strong.
I'm still behind Froome as well, not enough evidence against. The Tour de France should be interesting though no doubt some people will be stirring things up again. I just read they started this Tour of Italy in Israel, that is just weird. The Israeli government must have paid them a fair amount of money for that.
Why are posters so willing to accept that it was a legitimate, natural feat of endurance given the extensive, entrenched history of illegal doping in the sport? It's not like there aren't already questions about him. He's already got a doping charge against him. It's not like team sky and brailsford aren't slippery and evasive is it.
My cycling hero was Marco Pantani. I don't trust any of them. Him, Contador, Armstrong, Wiggins, Froome. Even Indurain.
As has been said re Simon Yates... at 24 to be so in control of a Grand Tour was something fantastic.. Nobody knew who Froome was until he was about 27/28. His team are nowhere near as experienced as Sky and getting the right people around him on the road would maybe have helped his cause. I suspect one of the major teams will come knocking on his door. Its still a wonderful achievement. Any cyclist will know, there comes a time, when the legs just say "NO"... his day will come.
Its okay his medical team was nearby ... please log in to view this image However ... Chris Froome set for Giro d’Italia glory despite being spat at by fan https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/may/26/chris-froome-set-for-giro-ditalia-glory-tom-dumoulin
Indurain will have been on drugs, But same for Merckx and I expect Hinault both of whom Froome is trying to equal the records of with the 3 big tour wins together.
yeah what a great race by Froomey- thought he was dead and buried after the first week but stage 19 going out on his own for 80K was unreal- watching yesterday some dirty italian bastard spitting at him as he went by what a ****ing Itie ****er. Doping is so high profile they know they will be under the microscope- we have to wait till the authorities rule on this but the length of time its taking is just bollocks - buts its salbutamol for gods sake not as if he was sniffing coke on the mountain stages?
They are all doing something to get an edge in an extreme event, but I agree it's a matter of what they take. If it's a completely outlawed drug involved then that makes things clearer, but those 'legends' of the past escaped because the monitoring wasn't taken that seriously.
I cannot believe Froome would take drugs in this day and age, as they are checked rigorously. Same goes for this Salbutamol, I cannot imagine he took over the allowed limit knowing he would get tested, just doesn't make any sense. So I actually believe they are racing clean. The only thing that doesn't sit right with me is that Brailsford is so meticulous about attention to minor details on racing matters, why was the recording of what TUE's being handed out so badly managed in Bradley's time?
