It's highly unlikely we'd keep him until 2020. Keeping him until next summer and then activating the extension would mean he can be bought for £25m 12 months from now. Even by then at 30, Toby will still be massively appealing at £25m and would more than likely be snapped up.

FWIW I'd be more than happy to keep him for another season and then risk losing him for £25m but I think the club will look at what can be done if we sell him now for a premium price. £60m give or take would allow us to go for the likes of de Ligt and have some change left over. Getting de Ligt would likely secure our CB future for some time, Jan and Dave as the number one pairing with de Ligt to then eventually replace Jan in time to come and revive the partnership he had with Dave at Ajax. Not forgetting Foyth and CCV who'll hopefully be making a challenge for places too.

  2. Just NOT sell him to a PL rival......... :headbang:

The next few weeks will be interesting. A part of me wonders what Poch's take on this will be - and indeed whether Toby would be influenced by him signing up for 5 years as well. What assurances have been made around retention and recruitment ££? Could be that the wage cap will have been seriously revisited.

If fit and wanting to stay, I'd love to see him and Verts together again in the new stadium, but certainly not overly worried if he does depart to foreign shores :emoticon-0148-yes:

But no overseas clubs wants him, unless he has
a beast of a summer for Belgium.

So if that does not happen, what you gonna do ??
You have a conflict of actions right on day 1.

  4. Don't accept that premise (yet) so cross that bridge when or if we come to it.....

It's also not my £25m potential loss on contract expiry, so can't make a call on that, but I'm just not an advocate for selling best players to direct competition. Makes no sense to me and in itself must have a financial 'value' that would impact on the real worth of (in this case) £60m. By how much i dont know, but would think selling to say, a Barca for £45-50m would be better overall value.

I think Toby and Poch's relationship has taken a bit of a beating after what seems a refusal to sign a new deal. It's all too similar to the Walker situation.

I think wages are definitely being revisited. If rumours are to be believed, Poch's new deal is £8.5m a year which is about £165k a week. We've offered Toby £130k yet he supposedly wants £180k - which as I've mentioned before, would put him on a wage in which only Thiago Silva and Sergio Ramos would earn more from a CB perspective.

I'd rather we keep him but I've come to terms with his departure, it's been eased massively by Dave Sanchez, if we didn't have him, I'd probably be losing my **** lol. If he goes to a Prem side then it shows the type of guy he is, if he goes abroad, fair play to him for respecting Spurs and not looking to strengthen a rival so best of luck.

And one ITK is claiming his "reps" asked for 200K, burned bridges
here, and now Man Utd have said "the hell you will" and have
    speculated on 150K max.

Yeah my mate texted me that last night funnily enough. I don't understand why he's seemingly being so greedy, especially after a season where he barely played. My mate made a point that maybe there's fear of becoming injury prone and so he wants to safeguard a huge deal, he missed about 10 or so games last season and then most of this, so could be plausible.

For the record, I am not Dier Hards' "mate" .

Nearly all of this is speculation.

All we do know is that a wage demand has been made that is
probably far too high for what the projected finances are, and
paying it would lead to a squad riot on wage parity.

Juve were linked a couple of days ago, while Bayern could be in the market for a CB if Jerome Boateng leaves this summer

    That cut deep, man.
True but then all we can really do is speculate.

Personally I think he's deliberately asking for an excessive amount to try and make it look like he was happy to stay for the right money and thus save face with Spurs fans but in reality has no intention of signing a new deal.

He's been tapped up by some ****s in Manchester, just like Walker was last season.

    Make a spectrum of possibilities.

At one end is a request for an increase that is not
unreasonable, within the clubs' minimum projected
income for the next couple of years, and if given to
him would not cause a financial collapse if there
is a squad pay parity mutiny.

At the other end is what that ITK claimed.
200K/week demand, and even Man Utd have said
eff off to that (speculated they will do 150K max) .

The truth of it is somewhere between the above.
Somebody ITK will get the true wage demand figures
    by Toby soon enough.

The 'ITK' is that MP went out on a limb to get him a really good deal - alleged to be £130k p.w., which is very good money for a centre back but Toby's dad came back with the figure of £200k based upon what the Mousers are paying VvD. Sticking to anything like that is effectively putting in for a transfer, as we don't have the funds to pay him that and he knows it.

I think the trust and confidence in TA has gone and a line can be drawn under his time at Spurs. Let's get top dollar and move on.

    A speculated wage ??

"Let's get top dollar and move on."

And if that is from one of the others in the PL
top 6, that is ok ??

As in all business, you take what you can get, when you can get it. With Modric and Bale we had offers from Madrid that were in the right ball park and we took their best offers. With Walker, Berbatov and Keane we didn't get such offers and we sold, as necessary, in this country.

Would I/we accept £5m or maybe £10m less to sell him abroad? Sure.

Would I/we lose £30m or more not to sell him to United this summer and let him go cheap next year? No.

Is it totally within the club's control? Also, no.
