Can't remember 99% of the match, it was all a blur apart from Deano's volley and Brown jumping on Boaz's back. Went down the previous day with the old man, stayed at a Premier Inn just a few minutes walk away from Wembley. For all his faults, being a supporter of TWS of course, he definitely seems to have a big soft spot for City. He went to our playoff final and didn't care for Leeds' final the following day. One of only two times I can remember crying at a football match too - the other being when Abide With Me played during the cup final.
With better luck and owners , we would have kicked on. The financial crisis of 2008, the shrinking property portfolio of Russell Bartlett, the shrinking consortium he was part of and the unexpected promo bonuses payable all conspired to drain the tank. Hence the sale of Turner in 2009 and then increasingly poor signings (Ghilas, Altidore and Vennegoor of Hesselink etc) So we end up in massively in debt and in come the Allams. Their inability to work with other people, their lack of football experience, their eccentricity and spite was initially camouflaged by the excellence of Steve Bruce, but even his amiability was exhausted by the Allams, who painted themselves into a corner declaring passive-aggressive war on supporters, employees, the council, the FA, the PL...you name it. It could all have been so different with honest and competent owners. Our demise and missed growth is entirely down to them, what an opportunity they missed to make us massive.

the last 5-10 minutes were terrifying sat behind the goal at our end, couldn't really tell how incredible our defending was it seemed like bristol city were absolutely peppering us not sure any football match can top that 10 years has gone far too fast though..
There's a very small possibility it could have established us. But not really back we're we've always been. So many clubs have had a little taster like us and dropped back again. As wba etc have found out it's very hard to be stabilized apart from the top 8. We could never be massive, sad but true.
Similar to stoke 10 years since they went up with us They started signing 'flair' players like bojan Affelay Rodriguez etc And they couldnt be arsed to play Its perhaps cliche but the premier league is **** You might finish 6th one season but any of your best players just get signed by others And you fight for mid table mediocrity or to stay up
WBA are the 12th highest points scorers in the top flight. Given the size of Hull to West Bromwich we should havevsoent far more years in the top flight. They have spent 79 seasons there.
I remember someone shouting ny name as I crossed a service station car park. Had a good chat about old times. I said to my lad afterwards that I hadn't seen him fir 25 years after moving from Hull despiypte us still goingbto games. My lad said, 25 years, the way you two were chatting I thought it was six months. Outside the stadium Imsaid hello as I passed someone. Only afterwards did I think it was strange as he was in prison. Turns out it was rather lax and he had got out, they had a way of covering absences, and took it in turns having a break. He returned Sunday evening.
Listening to the lads from 2008 talking to Burnsy right now and getting shivers down the spine all over again! Happy days
I also remember on the walk back to the Sportsman’s bar after the match, my mate who had stopped smoking 10 years earlier decided he was going to have a cigar. I don’t think he’s had another since.
Wonderful day. ONe of trhe best of my life. I was there with my two kids and my father in law. He turned up at our house about 8 o'clock in the morning wearing a suit and tie because he wanted to be smart for Wembley as it was important. I made him wear the purple away shirt form about 2003. I got four tickets because I'd read somewhere that although the telephone lines weren't meant to open till 9o'clock, they'd opened at 8 for the semi final so that;s when we started ringing. I was at work and my wife was at home using my son's account number. I didn't care what seats we got a long as we got some. We did - almost at the back and in the left hand corner. Thank goodness for the big screen versions of the goal. I've got the dvd now. We drove down from Preston and left the car in Ickenham, which was full of Bristol supporters. We went in on the train with them. We were the only City fans on it. In the 1970s I made a pact with some friends at Boothferry Park that we wouldn't go to Wembley till City did. I had come to the conclusion that I'd never go. If you are reading this, Mike Atkinson, I kept that promise. I know you went. You organised a bus from Scarborough. I can't look back on that day with anything other than sheer pleasure, no matter what has happened since. I appreciate what we had as I never thought we would get it. I first saw City play in 1962 against Workington. The contrast couldn't be bigger.
