Is working well - wonder if it's because they can actually both speak their native language to each other?!

That's what I was thinking. Lucas bashing needs to become a thing of the past cause the lad is genuinly putting the shifts and he's deserves our backing... Good times are coming back I just know it!

Lucas confirmed this. He said they usually speak English but when it's an emergency they slip into Portugese.

Lucas is a player transformed. When he played with Mascherano he used to always opt for the safe sideways or backwards passes. Now when he gets it, I see him as the first player in kicking off a decent attack. He always looks for the tough through ball passes and quite often he successfully cuts passes clear through the other team's ranks like a knife through butter.

i still wish we could have seen him play a bit further up the pitch though.. think he could have been much more of a player there.
He has a great workrate though and is quickly becoming one of our hardest workers.

i always think back to that run vs Lille!

I couldn't believe what I was watching when that happened. I was gobsmacked! To be honest Meireles has shown us the damage he can do in a forward role, so I think it's only fair Lucas gets a trial further up too. We really need a new pass master though to fill the void Alonso left. At the moment we only have Gerrard (and Lucas) for the holding role, and I feel Gerrard is wasted there.

yeah, he was always played attacking in his time with the brazil youth team and some of the goals he scored were cracking. i could be wrong but i think he was bought as a attacking midfielder but thrown into the defensive role by rafa.

As for the passer, masch sort of filled the void for a while by winning the ball back, but it always went out to stevie to get a move going, where as really you wanted the move to go through him. none of the players we have right now can do it as well as alonso mind.
Gerrard could, but yeah as you said its a bit of a waste.
I think the main priority is wingers.. but it was interesting to see aurelio played in midfield tonight. didnt get to watch the game or motd so i'm not sure how he was? what did you think?

edit: Yeah, exactly like that video shows!

I thought maybe Rafa saw him as a future Gerrard when he signed him so put him behind Stevie to learn from him.

He and Masch were top five last season for successful passes and tackles, so even when it did go sideways or backwards, that's still a Good Thing when possession has been won back.

I like to remember his pass forward from the edge of the box to Kuyt, Kuyt inside back to Lucas as he leaves Evra standing, Lucas forward to Ngog, ngoal! Liverpool 2 Utd 0.

There was a game recently, can't recall which, where he won the ball back on the edge of the box and after only a coupla quick counter-attacking passes was in the other box. That I was gobsmacked at.

I think that Lucas has been unfairly viewed by a majority of Liverpool fans since arriving. He was a young lad (21??) when he arrived and had to compete with Gerrard Alonso and Mashcarno for a midfield spot, arguably 3 of the top 10 midfielders in the world. No wonder he didnt shine.

I think he will be pivitol to a 4-3-3 system when Carroll is fit, I think King Kenny will play:
    Reina

    Kelly, Carra, Agger, Johnson

    Gerrard, Lucas, Merieles

    Kyut, Carroll, Suarez

It was good to see Stevie with the broad grin firing the Fingerguns of Credit at Lucas after that goal.
