What I always fail to understand is how a 5 year contract a player signed 2 years ago can be so out of date and unacceptable to a player now that he wants to move. If the player wanted to move after 2 years then sign a 2 year contract and forego the "extra" pay he is getting and the "loyalty" bonuses he is getting by signing the 5 year contract. I say I fail to understand but I do.
The good thing about it being World Cup year is, it will be harder for Klopp to tap him up in Blackpool!
Longer contracts suit the clubs just as much as the players. The player is worth nothing if the contract has run out after 2 years while the player gets security that he will get paid even if he suffers a career ending injury in his next game. It's all the more relevant where you have a situation like now where the money club's receive and therefore offer players is going up year by year.
Every now and again you come across a player who restores your faith in footballers. http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/16240910.Lascelles_rules_out_a_summer_move_from_Newcastle/
...or guarantee they can be paid £70,000 a week to play on the claw games in Sunderland arcade while the club languishes in Division 3 and sacks its tea ladies.
Nothing will rule out move until a bid is lodged. Then I'll believe him. I remember Fabian Delph saying he loved Villa, wasn't going anywhere despite Man City's interest, he was delighted to be made captain. The next day a firm bid was lodged and he left saying it was too good an opportunity to miss. Once in a career etc. I like Lascelles and I have no doubt while he is here he will give everything to the cause. He seems from good stock. However I'm not naive enough to think that means he can't change his mind.
Exactly. "Here, sign for us son and we'll more than double your wages and give a massive signing on fee, you'll have a great chance of winning multiple trophies, and you'll almost certainly be able to fulfil your aspirations at international level." "Nah, I love the Newcastle fans and they love me" I don't think so lads.
Every now and again you come across a player who restores your faith in footballers. Repeat until you believe.
And frankly, why should we expect anything else ? Clubs show no loyalty to players. Fans show barely any. We may like a player and value the years of loyal service that he has put in but the minute we have an opportunity to get something better, we'll chuck him over without a second thought. If Barcelona called up and offered us Messi on a straight swap for Lascelles, would we turn it down out of loyalty to our captain ? Would we ****. If we're willing to ditch them the first time something better comes along, we can't expect anything more from them.
Jamaal voted player of the season by the club... https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/spo...s/how-jamaal-lascelles-followed-alan-14695331 Interesting to see that in the last 15 years, 14 of the awards have been handed out to defenders or goalkeepers with the exception being Defensive midfielder Nicky Butt.
Nicky Butt was player of the season for us? The bar must have been set pretty low that year. Maybe the mists of time have fogged my memory but I'm struggling to remember him even having a good game for us.
How many people in life would turn down the opportunity to earn much more money for a better version of their own job? To be honest, I don't want idiots playing for us and I'd worry about his ambition if he didn't go. I just hope no big offers come in.
I wasn't criticising him, or anyone else. Just pointing out the reality. He'd be stupid to turn down a vastly better offer and none of us would either, whatever we tell ourselves.
Oh I was agreeing with you mate. Some fans are utterly blinkered when it comes to things like this, I can see him staying as we probably wont get an offer the club is happy with but if the club does he'll go. Either way he'll play next season very professionally either for us or someone else, he isn't a Mahrez type.
Well, if the top teams Ugh I loathed Nicky Butt by the end. Butt, Geremi, Alan Smith, those were dark days.
