I actually totally agree with you Saint
But just to play devils advocate
You cannot possibly say no you wouldn’t

If history teaches us anything it is that money and power corrupt.
So it is easy for someone in our situation to say - well if I had that money I would/wouldn’t do x....
    Truth is we cannot know
I am certain having money brings its own problems
Buffon might be sending all of the money from his next contract to a charity so he is doing this for other reasons
Truth is we just never can tell :)

For me there are certain countries where there's a big tax dodge on and some where there's not.

For example iniesta is headed for china, xavi headed for whereever, ronaldo is quoted as mls. Zlatan hung round tud to get fit then headed for MLS.

    Whats the common denominator?

IMO its image rights and deferred payments. These are getting squirrelled away nice and safe until the person finds themselves out of EU in most tax advantageous situation and then they take it all in and make thier killing.

Why the **** would anyone want to play in MLS with a bunch of painters and shoe salesmen? quite simply to get an absolute fortune in tax avoidance.

So.... Buffon... who knows. I'd have thought the italians were masters of the dodge anyway and PSG doesn't seem like a place to dodge.

Insofar as we can be certain about anything that hasn't actually happened, I can say that no, - I wouldn't. More than once in my life I've chosen a path that brings me the greatest satisfaction rather than the one that brings the most money.
Everyone needs some money, and few would turn down more if the opportunity arose to get it - but the pursuit of it above all else is just a waste of your life, imo, and especially if you already have far more than you need - which is the case for top footballers.
I have no idea what lies behind Buffon's choices, speculation about one player's purposes will get us nowhere, but this "you would if it was you" argument comes up every time any player appears to move for financial rather than footballing reasons. There's no "perhaps he's doing it for altruistic reasons" argument - it just seems to be accepted that everyone gives the accumulation of wealth their highest priority.
I just think there's more to life than that.

Bit random that. I reckon Klopp told him he could find a new club because there's no way he spoke to Michael Edwards just to wish him good luck.

If you retire in your 30's that last payday is important. You want to be able to afford you own private bum wiper into your 90's... 60 years after you retire.

One thing I've learnt about rich people is that they never think they have enough money.

I'm pretty sure, even if you're a mega-rich footballer you want more money. You see the guy with the 60' yacht and then look at your own 40' yacht and feel inadequate.

Newcastle star Jamaal Lascelles has spoken out amid speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool. Lascelles, 24, captained Newcastle to a 10th-placed finish in the Premier League this season and reports suggest the centre-back is firmly on Jurgen Klopp’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window. The Reds are on the hunt for defensive reinforcements ahead of the 2018/19 campaign, with Burnley’s James Tarkowski also understood to be a target. However, it appears Lascelles has ruled out the possibility of a move to Merseyside this summer after the Englishman insisted that he’s ‘very happy’ at St James’ Park.

Im pretty sure that goes for everyone. Even if you get a big salary increase you will always adjust the way you live, maybe just a bigger house and mortgage, but relatively you don't always suddenly have a lot more money saved up. People adjust to their income.

Its easy to see how some footballers go bankrupt and lose it all when the wages stop

very true you hope their sensible but realistically what can they do after footie. A few go onto be pundits, do coaching etc but i can't imagine many going onto doing professionable jobs and with many years of living and presumably kids to support, you only need to see the number of players that are bankrupt each year who aren't nowhere near retirement age.

Just googled online and apparantly, 40-60% of footballers go bankrupt within first 5 years (i guess no amount of wage money is going to help them).

    Reasons for bankrupcy:

    poor investment
poor use of money (like gambling)
    wives divorcing them

It is possible to say no.

There's an old saying - much wants more - which is very apt here.

The bankruptcy point is interesting. I think if you've got millions and squander it, by whatever means, having even more millions will just go the same way. Going to a club for one last big payday won't be of much benefit if you're the wasteful type, you just have more to waste. If you're not the wasteful type, then you have to ask, how much is enough?
