Reality is that budgets are small down there so they will have a chance. Transfer and budgets don’t really matter for them. Can they clear the obvious poison within the club? If not it could be a long hard season. Hopefully.

Why are Sunderland still listed on the “Championship” forum?

Is Nev in charge of updating that as well?

Why do i have a sneaking suspicion that the 'international consortium' is Stewart Donald, Stavros from the kebeb shop and the local butcher, who is half Welsh on his mothers side.

It is strange. One minute it was Repsol the mega Spanish Oil Company, next minute its some anonymous blokes who might put some money in in the future.

I reckon he will last six months by which time he'll be found out. They'll be begging for Short to return to bale them out again.

If they have to pay the £40m for the club in installments over 2yrs it doesn't look particularly promising

This is what they are now becoming obsessed with. Short of winning games in the last two seasons, they will now attempt to scare the **** out of other teams by telling them that they've got the biggest budget of all the league one clubs. Well, what else have they got?

They've got some bloody high wages to pay, I know that. Rodwell and Clattermole getting £2m a piece for a start. It wouldn't be bad at all if the parachute payments were there to be spent but Short is getting those so where is the big budget actually coming from? What is the income for Blackburn and Wigan in League 1 (minus the parachute payments)? That would probably give you a good idea of what Sunderland have to work with.

I don't know but they only spent about 1m and 700k.The problem for Sunderland is they need to go way beyond that and guarantee. Its a fragile place they are in. Firstly a mass squad overhaul on a budget can be difficult. Throwing a load of young players in carries no guarantees. Signing loads of free transfers can carry huge risk.

If I was them I'd spend a significant of money on a good manager first and foremost. You need someone who can coach well before anything else. If you then get the players of sufficient ability, that good coaching should make an unseen disaster less likely.
