I will bow to your greater knowledge.

However, in my experience the crooks are always one step ahead of the regulators. Especially if the regulators consider it in their broader interests to spend a lot of time looking the other way :bandit:

That used to be true when dodgy dealings were far easier to conceal. Of course, they can’t stop all skullduggery, but it’s a hell of lot harder to get away with now.

As I say, nowadays every single thing, every trade, every transaction, every bid/offer is electronically logged.

If you’re suspected of anything illegal, it wouldn’t take them long to trace it.

Illegal/malicious activity is always one step ahead
by definition (nobody can ever analyse the multitude
    of "what if" scenarios) .

No he didn't. I did concede that his knowledge of what goes on in the square mile is greater than mine, but I hardly consider his comments to have validated in any way your own spectacular level of cluelessness.

I know a lot of people who work or have worked in the City, by the way. One or two of them have even been honest, but honesty is not generally a trait that thrives down there.

Nobody’s denying that illegal activity is being completely stopped, or is ever likely to be. But, it’s nowhere near as easy as it used to be. It’s all too easy to trace back nowadays,

The issue for the likes of him isn’t laundered cash, unless he’s got a billion pound lemo trade on the side...

His income will no doubt be legitimate, what the issue is for the oligarchs, is how they obtained the source of their wealth i.e. USSRs natural resources. The U.K. authorities have **** all chance of proving that was bent from here, so this is all about being seen to put the pressure on blokes like Abramovich who everyone knows started out as little more than gangsters who stole their nations and thus the people’s rightful assets. It’s pure tokenism imo.

A bit like Thatcher selling off the nationalised UK owned assets of the cheap, and Dennis and scores of Tory vultures were all at the front of the queue to get their slice of the nations pie.

The fact is that illegal/malicious activity is proactive,
    while the countermeasures are reactive.

Whatever anyone purports to know about "City business", you can rest assured you all know far less than Roman Abramovich.....

Just a question, because i'm not sure, but is this not more to do with the US and Trump imposing further sanctions. If so then we would also have to comply with any sanction checks?

Of course the criminal has the advantage of knowing what they’re doing before the authorities do. As with any criminal activity.

However, in the City the kinds of activity that used to be the most prevalent some years ago are almost impossible to get away with now.

    This.....
    Basically what I said earlier.
I would be very surprised if any of Roman's dealings from the UK showed up as "dodgy".
Of course how he became rich in the first place is extremely dodgy as ****, but there is nothing our authorities will be able to do about that.
