Islam is not so much a religion it's more of an ideology.

Has no one considered that Tiote is performing below par on purpose. He loves the Toon so much that he doesn't want to be sold, so is therefore doing the bare minimum to deter any large bids from coming in.

i'd rather a player who fast's one month in a year than one who goes out drinking and causing trouble e.g barton, carroll and ranger.

I can't believe I've read comments on here from people saying he is 'unprofessional' and that he needs to get his priorities straight.

FFS Skalpel, Tiote imo has earnt a bit of leway with his performances last season. If he wants to practices his religion, let him. In a couple of weeks he'll be back to his usual self. Pro footballer or not you should respect peoples beliefs. I don't follow a religion myself, think its a load of bollocks but if thats how someone wants to live their life let them

As a muslim he's not allowed to go out on the piss, which is handy. Or gamble or lend money at interest, although these are less likely to affect his playing directly. Nor is he allowed a bacon butty, which is just mad. Could never follow a religion that stopped me having a bacon buttie.

But I'm not stopping him from living his life how he wants, I'm just putting forward my opinion on religion fitting in around occupation. I respect his freedom to believe as he sees fit. That does not stop me from having a belief of my own. My belief is that it is accepted because it is mainstream religion, whereas if, say, Gutierrez were part of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and informed us that he had to eat 10 bowls of pasta every day and nothing else for a whole month causing him to get out of shape and perform below his usual standard, most of us would find it odd and annoying.

Every person can live their life by their own beleifs and every person reserves the right to call anothers beliefs into question if they wish. Anyway, I was never meaning to directly aim this at Tiote (would I dare?!) and I (at least I think) refrained from specifying him. dDo we even have proof that he is observing ramadan or even that he is muslim? I have no idea if he is or not, I was going with the supposition that he is and speaking generally about my beliefs on religion and occupations.

I follow no religions, but do not eat bacon purely out of choice! I never liked it anyway!

But with regards to the main point of the article, Tiote will follow his religion long after he's finished with Newcastle. I'd sooner upset my employer, regardless of how much they pay me, than upset my friends and family, who in his case are no doubt Muslim too. He has every right to practise his religion - and like many of said, atleast his performances aren't affected by him necking 30 Jagers and falling off a bar stool or breaking someone's jaw. There are Muslim's throughout the world who earn far more money than him and I'm pretty sure none of their employers call them unprofessional! Can you imagine that tribunal?

My religion precludes me from eating sugar puffs. A peculiar rule, but there it is.

Always surprises me though, how atheists always feel free to say religion's bollocks, but if someone came on spouting their religious beliefs, the atheists would be the first to take offence.

I don't eat sugar puffs either. Do you worship at the same Church as me?

Not sure if this a serious point or if it's tongue in cheek, but it's quite a generalisation to say 'the atheists' as though every person who doesn't believe in a god would act that way. I'm sure there are plenty of Buddhists who would have no problem with people spouting religious beliefs, likewise plenty of non religious people.

Also, if I were refused sugar puffs I would become a heretic for sure. Best breakfast cereal man has ever invented.
