Sam wouldn't come to us. The only way that he would come back is if he felt guilty about leaving us in the clarts, which he won't, and take a massive pay cut, which he won't. I wouldn't want him back anyway cos he's dodgy as ****! If he doesn't retire his next job will be lower prem or upper championship. People need to lower their expectations regarding our pulling power and our new owner's bank balance.

We should have enough "pulling power" to get out of League one.

Sunderland: Stewart Donald's consortium completes takeover from Ellis Short

Former Eastleigh owner Stewart Donald, in partnership with an international consortium, has completed his takeover of Sunderland A.F.C. from Ellis Short.

The deal sees the club pass from Texan businessman Short, who has ended a nine-year spell as owner by writing off the club's debt.

The English Football League has ratified the change of ownership.

Sunderland will begin the 2018-19 season at their lowest position in 30 years, after relegation to League One.

To pave the way for this deal to progress, Donald has agreed to pass his ownership in National League side Eastleigh to existing board members.

    More to follow.

    What is the transfer budget?
SD: It will be pretty hefty by League One standards.
There will be transfer fees involved in the players we bring in. It will be a good budget for Sunderland.

When will a new manager be appointed?
SD: I would hope seven days maximum. We have to move, we need the manager to have as much as the summer as possible.

When did the deal go through?
SD: It was finalised last night. Here we are now, we are excited to get started."

    Is there an international consortium?
Not at this point, Donald is the majority shareholder with scope for others to come on board later on.

CM: There are other people we both have in mind that have further capital, there are people who have expressed an interest.
Stewart will be the majority shareholder whatever happens. For the time being Stewart and to a lesser degree me.
We will be very hands on.

    How excited?
    SD: "Nervous but very excited!
"We just want to get on with things now."

Whose decision was it to sack Chris Coleman?
SD: Donald says he had ‘nothing at all’ to do with Coleman’s sacking - ‘it was all Ellis’.
What is the future for Martin Bain?
please log in to view this image

SD: I know there will be questions about Jack Rodwell and Martin Bain and others, we have to get in very quickly and assess the football club.
"Playing and non-football staff decisions, the staff will be the first to know."

Parachute payments? Will Ellis Short keep them?
CM: "The way Ellis has allowed us to do it is to pay the £40m in stages to help with the cashflow this summer."

Methven goes on to confirm Short will not be taking the club's parachute payments, despite reports in the national press.
But he does confirm the £40m Donald is paying Short for the club is secured against the parachute payments.

How did the sale come about?
CM: I have known Ellis for a while, he felt the club needed a summer with the new owner.
From there things moved pretty quickly. We had a few weeks to do the due diligence.
It was hectic and a lot of tired lawyers. We got through it. Ellis Short has been extremely constructive throughout.

    How much was the deal?
    SD: It was £40million.
The reality is Sunderland is debt free.

CM: We will be able to pay him over a period of time. The price is £40m and the club will be debt free.

The pair go on to confirm the £40m will be paid over two years.

We are in place at the Stadium of Light

Hefty budget for the league we're in, like to hear that.

It'll be interesting to see if they keep Bain on. It's my impression that he's done a good job but I'm not sure.

Reading between the lines, I reckon theyve got things lined up but they won't jump on board until promotion is secured (to the championship).

Which is fair enough and probably a good way to do it

All good for me, seven days for a new manager is acceptable whoever it is is going to have to hit the ground running.
A positive summer is something we fans are not used to at our club and I wish Donald every success, for entirely selfish reasons of course.

I'd rather take a punt on Stockdale, personally. Some poor decisions by Coleman in the run in cost us imo.
